My guitar arrived today.  I almost knocked the UPS dude over in my excitement.  I bought the box inside and busted it open to reveal my shiny new redburst guitar. It's perfect.  It's a perfect fit for my hands, the tone is great...and it has that new guitar smell.  I got online with my bud Steve-o, and we tuned it in...and I played the riff from 'down on the corner'.  he was impressed, even though I made a mistake with one of the fingerings.  So, ...

....in fact, he's dead. The 67 year old great grandson of a slave, reknowned for his defense of Black Panther members, Michael Jackson, and most famously OJ Simpson, died in California today.  He was 67. Man, there's gonna be a hell of a turn out for the funeral.....celebrities and notorious persons as far as they eye can see....

I really detest holidays.  It's hard to be a singleton, awash in a sea of families and couples.  Yes, I know I'm married, but he's not here.  He's there, and me and the kids are on our own. Holidays can be like any other day of you shut yourself in the house, don't watch TV, don't listen to the radio and don't get on the internet.  If you seclude yourself to the point of isolation, you can pretend like it's just another day.  If, however, you have to have any kind...

Spc Nobody Special is in the hospital.  He has pneumonia.....his Lady Cleve has posted a prayer request for him, but I'd like to make this blog a cyber get well soon card, so he'll be able to see it when he's feeling better and know how many of us give a hoot about him. So, Ben....rest up and get well soon!  We all miss you here, this place wouldn't be the same without your marathon running, mustang tweaking butt!

I'm buying me a geeee-tarrrr! I picked up my first guitar at the grand old age of thirty.  My friend Terryn's husband taught me the basics, and I bought myself a chord chart and strummed away happily.  I was never really very good, but I had fun with it....I had a sense of accomplishment when I learned some new chords and could play and sing along with a song.  The first thing I ever learned how to pick was the riff from CCR's 'Down on the corner'; the first song I ever strumme...

I don't know what I'm doing...! I bought a ham for this weekend's Sunday lunch, but I don't know how to cook it.  I've never baked a ham before. I know that I'm supposed to glaze it, but I'm not sure with what.  Some people have suggested cola, some brown sugar, others pineapple and one person said maple syrup. Also, what are appropriate side dishes for ham?  I was thinking about a potato salad and some green beans.....or maybe baked potatoes and corn?  Any and a...

D got to his location okay.  He's all settled in to his tent, and he's started work already. I'm thankful that he got there okay, but the country he's in is starting to get suicide bomb attacks now.  That worries me a bit....   ...but he's there, and now we can start the countdown until he comes home.

I'm on day 5 of trying to pass this kidney stone. I'm tired of being in pain.  I'm tired of having to pee into little hats and then look to see if I've peed out a stone.  I'm tired of getting no sleep.  I'm tired of getting IV's and drugs that make me sick to my stomach.  I'm tired of everything. I just want this stone to pass so I can feel better.  I'm literally at my wits' end....

Why is it that some people seem to thrive on other's misfortune?  I know a few people like that....they really seem to enjoy making other people feel small.  They say that they like to see people 'taken down a peg or two'; they're happy when someone else fails.  They behave as though they're morally superior.....but they never make any claims of perfection themselves.  To do so would crack the facade that they've created for themselves, so they are very vocal about some o...

I don't know quite what happened last night, but I couldn't access JU.  I kept getting an error message, which sometimes happens when I try to access my page.  Usually I can go straight to the main page and get on with no problems...but this time I got an error message that told me JU didn't exist.  This problem persisted until this afternoon, actually until a few minutes ago when I finally got JU to come up.  I know that this place has been a bit buggy of late, but this ...

There isn't enough room on the headline title bar; the actual title is: "The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-time' by Mark Haddon. I found this book to be strangely entertaining.  The main character is Christopher Boone, a 15 year old British boy, who happens to be autistic.  Christopher discovers his neighbor's dog, Wellington, dead in their garden...stabbed to death with a garden fork.  He decides to do some 'detective' work and try and catch the canine murderer....a...

I spent 4 hours in the emergency room this morning. For the past few days I've had a vague right flank and right sided abdominal pain.  Yesterday it got pretty intense, and it woke me in the night and kept me awake until dawn, when I decided to haul my sorry ass over to the hospital. After they gave me IV demerol (woo hoo!!) they sent me off for a CT scan. Yes, you've guessed it.....I have a kidney stone.  Just a little one, about 3-4 mm.  Big enough to hurt like a mofo, ...

Earlier this week I wrote an article about the scruffy appearance of some reservists on the base I live on.  In that article I referred to them as 'Weekend Warriors'. I would like to apologize for using that particular term.  I realize that some resevists find it offensive, just as some active duty members find it offensive when they are referred to as 'boys and girls' or 'kids'.   I also realize that reservists and Guard members do their part (and sometimes more than thei...
