In mare ways than you might think

I spent 4 hours in the emergency room this morning.

For the past few days I've had a vague right flank and right sided abdominal pain.  Yesterday it got pretty intense, and it woke me in the night and kept me awake until dawn, when I decided to haul my sorry ass over to the hospital.

After they gave me IV demerol (woo hoo!!) they sent me off for a CT scan.

Yes, you've guessed it.....I have a kidney stone.  Just a little one, about 3-4 mm.  Big enough to hurt like a mofo, but small enough that I'll probably be able to pass it by myself.

Oh, and I'm apparently allergic to IV demerol too....the arm they gave it to me in broke out in hives and a blotchy red rash so they had to give me benadryl.

So, I'm at home with a little stash of percocet, under doctor's orders to take it easy and drink plenty of fluids.  I have to pee in this little strainer thing and when (if) that stone comes out I have to take it over to my doctor and have him analyze it to see what kind it is and if there's anything I can do to prevent another one (this is the third one I've thrown since 2003).  I already know that I'm going to have to drastically reduce the amount of coffee I drink (NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!) and watch my protein  and calcium intake.  I don't like it, but if that's what it takes to not have another stone...then I'll do it.

I think I'd rather give birth to a 11lb baby without the aid of medication than have another kidney stone.  It sucks!!!

My wife told me the pain of a kidney stone was the closest I'd get to experiencing labor.......

As a suggestion, try lots and lots of Cranberry juice, you'll pee a flood and it's good for the urinary system.( mixes well with vodka too)

Feel better soon.........

My wife told me the pain of a kidney stone was the closest I'd get to experiencing labor.......

She was right.  I was doubled over in the ER, moaning.....and I've birthed babies and broken bones without making noises like that.

As a suggestion, try lots and lots of Cranberry juice,

As soon as the meds have worn off and I can drive again, that's what I'm going to run to the store and get.

ouch

Yeah....it fucking hurts, Greywar.  I wouldn't wish this on anyone....

OUCH! My dad has chronic Kidney stones 5-10 times a year. He will get as many as 9 at a time. yuck! I remember once he passed this HUGE one that had little spikes all over it, I have never heard someone in so much pain.

Hang in there, I hope it passes soon and you are feeling better in no time.

Ow! So sorry to hear this. I have never had a kidney stone but had gall stones that hurt like a mofo. I don't know if the pain was as bad as child birth but it seemed worse because of fear. At least with childbirth you know what is happening and that it will be over within a couple of days

Hope you are on the mend and remain stone free.

Errrrr... I hope to God that this never happens to me. (sorry to sound selfish) But I think if it's anything like the time I had a catheter go wrong... Lets just say I pee'd liquid magma for 2 weeks. MAN, I feel for ya.
