hey dharma,

i found your post on one of my once-in-a-thousand year joeuser peeks. good idea.

just finished a fantastic book: Disgrace by J.M. Coetzee.

it's a story about a middle-aged professor in south africa, dealing with his highly-abstracted sense of passion. he deals with a series of events that challenge his belief system, from the caste system to academia, from his role as a father to his existence as a man. more and more, he confronts the lowliness and relentlessness of the human condition.

it's not a happy book, so beware if hard subjects do not appeal. still, coetzee is a brilliant, unwaveringly honest writer. it's one of the best novels ive read in a long time.

I just finished The Wedding - which is the sequal to The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. I finished it in under 3 hours. It's really good possibly better then The Notebook I haven't decided.

Best fiction I've read lately is "Oryx and Crake" by Magaret Atwood. I'm also reading "Guerilla Warfare" by Che Guevara and "Guerilla Warfare" by Mao Tse Tung.

Poetry, I reccommend "The Spirit Level" by Seamus Heaney. Heaney's translation of "Beowulf" is also superior.

Cheers, and happy reading!

Great idea! It is a great way to help us book-a-holics.

I've begun to read alot more history and less novels, but I did just finish a particularly good one, The Once and Future King. It's about all the legends of King Arthur, from his childhood to the end of his reign. I'll be sure to join!

I have a question. Do you think my latest article, would have been appropriate to post here? I couldn't decide. It's not a book review per se, but it is about books (using a particular book as an example).
