I really can't stand much more...

I'm on day 5 of trying to pass this kidney stone.

I'm tired of being in pain.  I'm tired of having to pee into little hats and then look to see if I've peed out a stone.  I'm tired of getting no sleep.  I'm tired of getting IV's and drugs that make me sick to my stomach.  I'm tired of everything.

I just want this stone to pass so I can feel better.  I'm literally at my wits' end....

Hey K, I hope your pain will be over soon. It sounds mighty uncomfortable and I get the sense it is also very distracting. My thoughts are with you.

It is.  I can't concentrate on anything, I can't get comfortable....it's just nasty.

Hey, Dr Dev...how long should I wait before going back to the doctor because it hasn't passed?  Is there anything I should look out for in the meantime?  I hadn't had much pain in my back until yesterday, and now it hurts like a bitch...it just feels like the area below my ribs on the right is really bruised.

I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

K~

When they thought my dad had kidney stones (it was actually a big, freaking malignant tumor slowly killing him...but I'm not bitter or anything), they kept him in the hospital for a week trying to pass it...if it doesn't come out, there's simple, same day surgery they can do to break up the stone and make it come out, I believe.

Just drink, drink, drink like a banshee, babe. I hope you feel lots lots better soon. Give yourself a few more days and then tell them you want something done. You can't live like that, you know?

If the flank pain is getting worse that could be a good sign. It could mean the stone is trying to work its way out. Drink lots, rest when you can, and give it a couple more at most. Don't be afraid to call the doc and see what they say.

Wow. I thought that those things could be taken care of sonically.

The good thing about pain is that once it is gone, you'll feel a lot better. (Of course that doesn't do you much good now, does it?)

D--I totally understand what you are going through. I had surgery for kidney stones in Dec 03--what a pain in the butt they are.

Of course, while going through it, everyone had advice--this one seems the silliest but has worked for a bunch of people. It's called the jump and bump method. Basically, when you feel pain you drink as much lukewarm water as you can handle (but at least 2 pints), you wait 30 minutes, then you jump up and down, wait five minutes, jump again, wait five minutes, and repeat until the pain is gone. The following site provides you with a better set of instructions: Link

The idea is that the water and the bumping will move the stone to the bladder.

There is a same day surgery--and I suppose from the medical view point it is simple, but it will hurt like hell and have you on your back for a week. It's not pretty.

Man, I was hoping to hear good news by now (as I am sure you would be happy to give it). Best wishes for a quick departure for that nasty stone!

All I can say is I hope you feel better soon.
