I, as I'm sure a good proportion of the American public are, have become somewhat unaffected by all the images of war and conflict pouring out of Iraq these days. We're exposed to it on a daily basis; it's easy to become immune to photos of blood, battle and gore. Every newspaper and news channel shows so much of it, so many scenes of death and destruction that I tend to just not take much notice anymore. Until this morning. I logged into MSNBC and was confronted with an image that mad...

I've been thinking about this for a long time, but having watched more MTV than usual recently, this has again come to the forefront of my mind. Is Ebonics actually a language, or is it just an excuse to bastardize the existing English in use around the rest of the country? I'm not referring to made-up words so much, my emphasis is more on pronunciation and using words that are inappropriate for the situation - like saying "there was mad hotties at the mall today" insead of saying "there ...

Well, it seems the wreck is never going to go away. I had to go talk to my doc this morning, just a routine follow up kind of thing. I mentioned to him that I was having difficulty with my backstroke; the backward swing of it makes my left shoulder clunk and hurt, so I try not to do it too often - not the windmill version of it, anyway. He took a look, had a feel, moved my arm around and made my shoulder hurt, and told me he was pretty sure I had torn my labrum, the 'cup' of cartilage th...

I've been asked on more than one occasion recently how Buddhism 'works'....what it's basic 'rules' (for want of a better word) are and how it's similar to Christianity. I thought that the best place to start would be to explain the 5 basic precepts. These are the things I agreed to do when I made the decision to practice Buddhism. To refrain from killing and harming living beings. To refrain from stealing and taking that which is not yours. To refrain from causing harm through ...

I beat my goal of another half mile in the water today and swam a mile instead. It wasn't that hard. I cheated and took a 10 second breather around the 3/4 mile mark, then pressed on. Had 'spaghetti legs' when I got out of the pool, but they went away after a couple of seconds. I think that I'm going to start concentrating on my form tomorrow, and hopefully my speed will come up as my form gets better. I love swimming! Sorry, I just had to say that!

I had a flashback of sorts this evening. For those of you who don't know, let me lay down a little background for you: I had a bad vehicle accident last October. The ass end of my jeep slid out on some black ice on the interstate and I ended up facing oncoming traffic and got nailed head-on by an 18 wheeler. I broke some ribs, my collarbone, shoulderblade, dislocated my shoulders, tore tendons in my neck, cut up my knees, broke my knuckle on my right hand, and bruised my heart and lungs....

Bet that title got your attention, didn't it?! I AM getting a hard body...toned, and taught. I've been trying to get back into shape after last year's accident...and it hasn't been easy. My activities have been restricted because of the damage I did to my skeletal structure and musculature. Today, for the first time in ages, I swam over 1/2 a mile. This morning, before I swam, I did a complete yoga workout and managed a right angled handstand as well as 'crow' (it's handstand b...

I'm taking a break from make-up this week. I was thinking yesterday as I was 'putting my face on'...that I was covering myself up with a mask. I use foundation to supposedly even out my skintone and cover up all the little flaws...but those flaws are what make me 'me', dig? I use something that looks akin to a piece of ancient torture equipment to curl my puny little lashes, then I cover them with mascara to lengthen, thicken and color them. They end up looking not so terribly different t...

I'm lonely. I miss D. I haven't felt close to him all week...it's been hard, with everything that's been going on. If he were here, things would probably be different, but as it is he's gone, and I'm lonely. I took the kids to the pool again this afternoon. We were doing fine until a bunch of teenagers decided to crash our party in the shallow end. You know, they had the whole of the olympic sized swimming pool at their disposal, I don't know why they had to come play in the 10ft rad...

I had the most unexpected surprise today. I got a message from Family Advocacy this morning, regarding the allegation of neglect that was made the other day. They had more questions for me, they said, and would I please call them. My heart about dropped into my shoes. "Here we go again", I thought. I tried to return the call all morning, then gave up - I was going to go over to that office later for an Overseas Clearance appointment anyway, so I'd catch up with them then. So, I go ove...

These aren't the best pics, I'm still trying to get used to different programs on this antique computer I now have...but they'll give you a good idea of what he looks like. I'll get better ones this weekend, these really don't do him justice. I think that I might have to make him into something of a 'roaming ducky'...like the roaming gnome? I may just have to take him to Mt Rushmore this weekend and get his picture there...and if I pulled some strings I might be able to get him in the cockp...

There's a Buddhist saying that 'when the student is ready, the teacher will appear'. I found this in my daily readings book this morning.... 'Right Aspiration is what develops in the mind once we understand that freedom of choice is possible. Life is going to unfold however it does: pleasant or unpleasant, disappointing or thrilling, expected or unexpected, or all of the above! What a relief it would be to know that whatever wave comes along, we can ride it out with grace. If we got re...
