Do you realize that there are only two times in your life that you're 'pronounced' as something? When you're married "I now pronounce you husband and wife" (Or if you're from San Fran or Mass. "husband and husband" or "wife and wife") And when you die "He was pronounced dead on arrival.." Hmm.....makes you think, doesn't it?

Well, both Dave and I spoke to the overseas clearance person at what was going to be our receiving base this morning.  I got tired of relying on a third party to get my point across, so I took matters into my own hands and called her, and Dave followed that up with a call as well. This is where we stand: because of the lack of adequate medical care we got denied a transfer to Alconbury.  HQ is reviewing that today.  However, that does not mean we aren't going to England, or eve...

I've come to a point of acceptance over this 'going to England/not going to England' farce. It doesn't matter where in the world we go; wherever we are is 'home'.  As long as we're together, the rest all kind of fades into relative insignificance.  I still want to go to England, but if that's not meant to be, then I'll accept that.  I'll press on with life and all that comes with it, and I'll make a new home wherever the military wants to send us next. This weekend has b...

It looks like we might not be going to England this fall.  The receiving base has denied our application for overseas medical clearance...why, we don't know, they just have.  It's a small base, with only a rudimentary medical facility, which probably has a lot to do with it.  Anway, the application is being sent to Headquarters, and they have the final say.  If they approve it, we're going to England.  If they deny it, we don't know where we're going.  We might get ...

This link takes you to a plain English explanation of the Law of Armed Conflict.  If you have any interest in the war in Iraq whatsoever, I'd highly recommend you read it. Link To all those who believe the personnel at Abu Ghraib should be found innocent because they were "just following orders", please take note: SECTION VII- Consequences We all have an individual duty to know the law of armed conflict and to follow the rules.  This includes reporting suspected viol...

According to recent reports, it would seem that Abu Ghraib was more like a swingers club than a jail.  PFC England's sexual interest was not just limited to SPC Graner, the purported father of her child...but extended to the prisoners and other active duty men in her batallion.  The New York Post has quoted an anonymous member of Congress as saying that among the images of abuse were numerous pictures of PFC England having sex with numerous partners. “It appeared to be consen...

Your heaviness upon my hips Legs and arms entwined Stinging sweat upon my lips Your fingertips divine.   No words aloud, just sound and breath Your mouth upon my skin My face pressed hard into your chest Taking you all in.

Lynndie England is denying culpability in the Abu Ghraib POW abuse scandal. "I was told to stand there, point thumbs up, look at the camera, take the picture" she said. Of course she was. Of course she was only following orders. Lynndie is participating in the grand tradition of passing the buck, blaming others for our actions and misdeeds. It seems that we have created quite an epedemic of this behaviour . From Presidents to paupers, Kings to commoners, we’re all doing it. We begin at...

Has anyone else noticed that JillUser has been scarce around here the past few days? Or is it just my imagination? Does anyone know if she's ill or something?

I am so mad I can hardly string together a sentence. Nick Berg.  Dead.  Decapitated, on TV, by members of Al Queida. In retaliation, supposedly, for the prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib.  As much as I am ashamed at what happened in that prison and think that the perpetrators of the abuse should be held accountable for their actions....I am still outraged at this atrocity.  And I don't understand why more people aren't.  That's all I can say for now.  ...

I've been reading the information about death row inmates on the Texas Deartment of Criminal Justice' web site. There are a few different pages on there...'women on death row', 'offenders on death row' 'executed offenders' and 'scheduled executions'. The 'Executed Offenders' page contains information about the offenders and their crimes, and also their last statements.  In reading some of these, I am amazed at the amount of a) "innocent" men being put to death and the amo...

From the Dhammapada, the sayings of The Buddha: Do not think lightly of evil, saying "It will not come to me".  Even a water-pot is filled by the falling of drops. Likewise the fool, gathering it drop by drop, fills himself with evil. Do not think lightly of good, saying "It will not come to me".  Even as a water-pot is filled by the falling of drops, so the wise man, gathering it drop by drop, fills himself with good.

I got a chuckle out of these.  Hope you can do the same. A kindergarten pupil told his teacher he'd found a cat, but it was dead. "How do you know that the cat was dead?" she asked her pupil.  "Because I pissed in its ear and it didn't move," answered the child innocently.  You did WHAT ?!" the teacher exclaimed in surprise.  "You know,"explained the boy, "I leaned over and went 'Pssst!' and it didn't move."   A small boy is sent to bed by his father....
