I went and got my hair cut today.  I know that some people have a hard time cutting short hair, so I always take a picture with me so that the stylist doesn't have to rely on my half-assed description of what I want, they have a picture to refer to. The girl that cut my hair this morning had never done it before.  She seemed nice enough...a little chatty, perhaps, but I didn't think much of it. Until she was paying more attention to talking than she was to my hair and took of...

The following are actual excerpts taken from history essays written by British schoolchildren. If this is an indication of the future of England....then gawd help us all.  The inhabitants of ancient Egypt were called mummies. They lived in the Sarah Dessert and traveled by Camelot. The climate of the Sarah is such that the inhabitants have to live elsewhere, so certain areas of the dessert are cultivated by irritation. The Egyptians built the Pyramids in the shape of a huge triangu...

My daughter's been talking about this boy in some of her classes since the start of the school year. His name is Nick. Nick has cerebral palsy.  He's in a mototized wheelchair and has an assistant to help him out during the day.  He's in regular classes, but he has a hard time writing so someone comes with him to take notes for him. Shea really likes Nick.  She sits with him at lunch when their schedules allow, and hangs out with him between classes.  They do really wel...

*this is a letter to my birth mother that I will never send.  In other words, it's a rant, and a much needed one* Dear Veronica, I want to say that words fail me, but that would be a lie.  They don't fail me.  It's just that the ones that come to mind right now aren't very nice...they are words that I won't use towards you, out of respect. See, that's the one thing I don't think you gave me, Veronica.  Respect.  You couldn't respect me enough to give me what I a...

I'm watching a show on Discovery Health about a MASH unit in Iraq.  It's at Balad AB.  The place where my husband could go next time he deploys. I shouldn't have done it. I'm seeing soldiers and airmen come into this field hospital with legs blown off, shrapnel wounds the size of grapefruit in ther sides and necks.  Some of them come in with their flack vests still on and fight the staff trying to take them off. I learned that Balad gets mortared every other day.  Th...

Link   I ran across CUDADP's web site earlier today.  Citizens United for Alternatives to the Death Penalty has soon good ideas.  I'd like to share their mission statement with you: Citizens United for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (CUADP) recognizes and upholds the responsibility of society to protect everyone from people who are dangerous, in particular, those who are convicted murderers. CUADP also understands the legitimate response of human nature t...

I've been watching 'Growing Up Gotti' on A&E.  Victoria and her moron kids really nauseate me sometimes.  She acts like she's queen of the world, and her kids are nothing better than knuckle dragging neaderthals who have difficulty enunciating. To hear Victoria talk, you'd think that her father was a kind and gentle man who was proud of her and proud of his grandchildren.  According to her, she was the apple of his eye, as was her mother. Yeah, right. Link T...

I was dreading Dave being gone this time. This past summer was difficult, and the year that he was gone for was even harder.  The kids didn't deal well with their dad being gone; the boys fought like cat and dog and nobody wanted to co-operate with me or anyone else on anything . So, I was dreading him being gone again.  I'm not 100% yet, I'm still really limited to what I can do.  I was worried. My worries were unfounded. They've been great.  They've helped me o...

My son just turned 11. He's a typical boy....room's always a mess, likes pizza and video games, enjoys sports and getting dirty. I guess you have to be a parent of a small boy in order to comprehend how huge what I'm about to say is....why I would consider this a minor miracle. He took a shower, and I didn't have to ask/tell/force him to!  He did it, and he did it under his own steam! He went in the bathroom, ran the water, got under it, soaped and shamppoed up, rinsed off a...

We're all sick.  Jake started coughing and feeling iccky over the weekend. He stayed home from school yesterday, and he slept half the day away. Davey said he felt rough, so he too got the day off school. Shea started feeling ill last night, and I started throwing up around midnight.  I dozed fitfully all night, and when 6 am rolled around nobody was feeling any better, so we all stayed home today.  The couch and love seat has been occupied by someone's aching ...

My husband left for Alabama this morning.  His departure was heralded by tears on both our parts.  I was crying first, but then he started crying too which made me cry even harder.  It wasn't a pleasant situation....but then again, saying goodbye to the person you love more than anything else is never nice.  We don't say goodbye, anyway...we aways say 'see you later'.  Goodbye is too final, too absolute.  See you later...well, it's true.  We WILL see e...
