My laptop is 'out for delivery', according to the UPS website.  That means it will be here today! Yay! I've come to the realization this morning that I'm probably a geek.  If I'm not a fully fledged geek, then I certainly have strong geeky tendencies.  I mean, I'm getting giddy with excitement over a laptop computer and a wifi connection.  I'm daydreaming of all the widgets I'm going to upload; I'm thinking about how cool it's going to be to sit in bed and read the pap...

Michelle Duggar has given birth to her 16th child.  Link I first watched a documentary about Jim and Michelle this past spring.  They're a fundamentally Christian couple who are raising their children without any assistance from anyone else.  They even homeschool. As I watched the show, I was impressed not only with their organizational skills, but their children's attitudes too.  They're all intelligent, polite, well rounded individuals - they've obviously been rais...

Our cat likes to get into boxes.  And bags. Every time, without fail, that there's a box in our home, she gets in it.  This morning my laptop bag got delivered, and no sooner had  I taken the bag and the packing out of the box, she was in it.  She's not picky about her boxes either.  She's just as happy with a shoe box as she is with the box the TX came in.  She even got into an empty 12 pack soda box last week.  It was a tight squeeze, and I don't ...

Neither I or the person who contacted my birth mother have heard anything from her, despite her assurance that she would contact one of us. This silence is difficult, it's awkward.  I can handle whatever decision she makes; I just want to know.  If she decides that she doesn't want to talk to me or know me, then that's great.  I'm not going to be devastated by her rejection....I don't have an emotional attachment to her.  Yes, she's my birth mother, but if I were to walk p...

The following is an excerpt from a conversation I had with SBC tech support earlier this evening: Me: I'm having a problem connecting to the internet and i wanted to see if you had had any reports of issues in my area. SBC: yes sir, let me check that for you. Me: It's ma'am. SBC:  Alright sir, I'm sorry about that. Me: it's ma'm. SBC: yes, yes, I meant ma'am.  Well, I'm not seeing any problems as reported in your area, can you tell me what your modem looks l...

In the gran American tradition of buying on credit, I ordered myself a laptop yesterday. D got himself one last week, and he knew I'd been wanting one too.....so last night he asked me if I'd like to go order myself one as an early Christmas present. I thought about it for a bit before I said yes.  Did I need one?  Not at the moment, but I'm starting a class in a month and a laptop would be really useful then...in fact, given the type of class I'm going to be taking, a laptop wil...

*This is a rant.  Please read it as such....a rant.  I'm just venting and getting stuff off my chest...so take some of it with a grain of salt, please* I messed up my back last Friday.  I twisted to get out of the truck, and my lower back spasmed up on me.  I had to go to the ER, was in a TON of pain and was pretty disheartened. My friend K called on Friday evening to make sure I was okay, and also to ask if Dave and I wanted to go to another neighbors house on Saturday...

Dave got himself a laptop. He's been itching for one for a while.  He's going to a 6-week school next month, so it seemed like as good a time as any to get him a notebook. So, last Saturday he scoped out the Dell website and ordered himself an Inspiron 2200.  He got a internal wireless capability for it, and we also ordered a wireless router so he can browse at home. The laptop came today, but the router didn't.  He was glad that his computer got here - said he didn'...

So, Tom Cruise has gone and knocked up katie Holmes. Katie Holmes.  The girl who famously swore that she was a virgin....and that she'd stay a virgin until her wedding night.  Last time I checked, you actually had to have sex in order to get pregnant....unless there's some Scientology ritual that I'm not aware of that lets a person get preggers without having intercourse. So, she's probably not a virgin anymore. Guess she thought being engaged was close enough, huh?

Link BY CHARLES MURRAY Sunday, October 2, 2005 12:01 a.m. EDT Watching the courage of ordinary low-income people as they deal with the aftermath of Katrina and Rita, it is hard to decide which politicians are more contemptible--Democrats who are rediscovering poverty and blaming it on George W. Bush, or Republicans who are rediscovering poverty and claiming that the government can fix it. Both sides are unwilling to face reality: We haven't rediscovered poverty, we have rediscov...

Link British comedian Ronnie Barker died yesterday at the age of 76.  Ronnie, half of the comedy duo 'The Two Ronnies' (Other half was Ronnie Corbett) had retired from comedy in 1987, and had opened a small antiques shop in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire.  I met him a couple of times...he was always very pleasant.  Reminded me of my dad...their physical features were a lot alike, as was their sense of humor. Ronnie barker also made some comedy series: 'Porridge', where ...

The base that we live on is in the process of privatising it's housing. That means that the government will sell the housing to a civilian company who will collect rent and be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the houses.  Each military member will have to set up an allotment out of their paycheck so that the rent is taken out automatically each payday. This idea, whilst it sounds good in theory, actually may end up screwing some of the residents.  Like us. Militar...

Guilty until proven innocent, I see.  I see no reason to continue this conversation with someone who has such CLEAR comtempt for the Constitution. I've been blacklisted, or else I'd respond to this on the relevant thread. When a person becomes a parent, they have an obligation to protect that child from whatevere they can.  They have a responsibility to place the welfare of that child before ANYTHING else.  ANYTHING.  Ture, there are some thing parents CANNOT protect ...
