Hi-tech for us, anyway.

Dave got himself a laptop.

He's been itching for one for a while.  He's going to a 6-week school next month, so it seemed like as good a time as any to get him a notebook.

So, last Saturday he scoped out the Dell website and ordered himself an Inspiron 2200.  He got a internal wireless capability for it, and we also ordered a wireless router so he can browse at home.

The laptop came today, but the router didn't.  He was glad that his computer got here - said he didn't really care that he wouldn't be able to connect to the internet until next week - and he starts checking out the functions on his laptop.

Imagine his surprise and happiness when a window pops up and informs him that it's detected a wi-fi connection nearby and asks him if he wants to use it.

He's now sitting cross-legged in the middle of the living room floor, surfing the internet on his laptop.  He's a pretty happy camper.  I'm going to tell him to come read my blog in a minute....tell him he's starring in the latest installment of the Dharma chronicles.

Happy early birthday, Dave.  Enjoy your new toy....

(I love you - always)

Hello, everyone.

Ha! Finally! Now people will stop worrying that you're just a figment of my imagination....

.....how're you liking your laptop so far? Pretty happy with it? That wireless connection stuff is pretty cool, huh?

Can I get a laptop too? *bats eyelashes and smiles sweetly*

Congrats, Dave!

Very cool.

I have a used laptop that my husband bought off an Officer for $140 when he was deployed. Right now it's my game laptop, but I'm hoping to get a wireless router soon so I can go online while being lazy on the couch, hehe. How awesome would it be to surf the net AND watch TV at the same time?

Hey, Spc.

Not to rain on your parade or anything, but Dave there is using someone else's network, due to the lack of enabled security on the person's router.

Just so you know, anything he sends or receives can be intercepted and either messed up or just plain copied. So I wouldn't be doing any online purchasing or banking.

When you guys do get your wirelesss router, be sure to follow the instructions for enabling WEP on it. In addition to security, you won't be having anyone sucking up your bandwidth.

Thanks zweihander01, I'm aware of the security issues with a wireless access. I'm not getting into anything classified but I'm also not going to conduct any personnal business either. Once dharma gets hers we'll get into the in's and out's or securing our network. Thanks again for the heads up!

btw, I just finished hooking up our router. It's pretty cool. I'd say if you could swing it, get one. I'm pretty amazed, not gloating, just impressed.

I like what you do, continue this way.
