I'm a little confused. Most doctors agree that the fetal age of viability is 24 weeks.  An infant born at 24 weeks gestation stands a resonable chance of surviving if given the appropriate medical care and attention. So, if the age of viability is 24 weeks, why is partial birth abortion not considered infanticide? If the fetus is not viable due to some genetic defect of malformation, why is it necessary to kill it before it's born (remember I'm not talking about early stage abortio...

I learned that laying next to the pool on a breezy but sunny day will result in you getting a little fried unless you liberally apply suncreen every 15 mins. I, as you can see, either did not apply my SPF 15 often enough of liberally enough, because I got a little red.  It's not all sunburn, I had some tan lines there already from swimming and laying out with the kids at the pool...but it is looking a bit pink. Oh well...by tomorrow the red will have calmed down and I can go bac...

This is the back brace that I'm going to be wearing for 3 months: Yes, that's a look of discomfort on my face in the first picture.  This thing has to be tight; so tight that it's difficult to take a deep breath.  It does what it's designed to do, I can't twist or bend in it, and sitting is...interesting, to say the least.  I'm supposed to wear it over my clothes, and I already learned that low-rise pants aren't a good idea to wear with it....the bit of belly ...

(These got forwarded to me via Email.....I have no idea who the original author is)     1. If you are choking on an ice cube, don't panic. Simply pour a cup of boiling water down your throat and presto. The blockage will be almost instantly removed.   2. Clumsy? Avoid cutting yourself while slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold them while you chop away.   3. Avoid arguments with the Mrs. about lifting the to...

....he's just awesome. I got a parcel from him today.  He bought me some birthday presents.  He got me a jewellery box made out of carved and polished camel bone, some butterflies in a frame, a necklace and matching bracelet (he got himself a matching necklace too) and a ring.  All of these things were totally unexpected.  He'd got them from local artists and traders and was very proud of himself for haggling in Arabic for them.  The necklace and bracelet...

I can get fixed!  I can get fixed!!!! I'm having a anterior spinal fusion surgery done, probably the first week or so of July.  I see the general surgeon on June 30th - because they're going through my belly the general surgeon has to tag team the neuro surgeon and clear the way to my spine, so to speak. 2 titanium rods, a few screws, and some bone harvested from my hip...and he said he was 90% certain that I'd be almost good as new afterwards! I got fitted for my brace today,...

Actress Anne Bancroft, who famously portrayed Mrs Robinson in 'The Graduate' has died.  She was 73. Wife to Mel Brooks, mother to Maximillian, she succumbed to cancer at Mt Siani hospital on Monday. Of her role alongside Dustin Hoffman in the 1967 film she had once said: “I am quite surprised that with all my work, and some of it is very, very good, that nobody talks about ‘The Miracle Worker.’ We’re talking about Mrs. Robinson. I understand the world. ... I’m just a little dismayed t...

I'm seeing the surgeon again this morning. He's going to look at my myelogram films and then we're going to decide what needs to get done and when. Realistically, I could initiate the 'get D home' campaign this afternoon.  His squadron have decided that he shouldn't just come home for 2 weeks e-leave, he should come home to stay.  I'll still have to send Red Cross messages and get statements from my family practice doctor and the surgeon, but that's just red tape necessary to fac...

I think I must be speaking a different language than my kids, because they don't seem to understand me. Because of my back issues, I have weakness in one leg and foot and I don't have normal sensation in some of my toes.  This makes navigating around things left on the floor difficult and sometimes hazardous.  I trip over stuff regularly.  I don't feel where my foot is, you see, and I think that I'm clearing the object when I'm not.  Tripping over things makes my back ...
