Actress Anne Bancroft, who famously portrayed Mrs Robinson in 'The Graduate' has died.  She was 73.

Wife to Mel Brooks, mother to Maximillian, she succumbed to cancer at Mt Siani hospital on Monday.

Of her role alongside Dustin Hoffman in the 1967 film she had once said: “I am quite surprised that with all my work, and some of it is very, very good, that nobody talks about ‘The Miracle Worker.’ We’re talking about Mrs. Robinson. I understand the world. ... I’m just a little dismayed that people aren’t beyond it yet.”

Goodbye to you, Mrs Robinson....

I loved her in Oldest Living Confederate Widow tells All and How to make an American Quilt

I was very sad when I saw her passing on the news this morning.

I liked her in 'Agnes of God', 'The Miracle Worker' and of course, 'The Graduate', and I was really sad to see that she'd died too.

Wow...I just saw The Miracle Worker for the first time two days ago (just happened to be channel surfing and it was on); she was excellent in that role. Sorry to hear of her passing.

Me too, InBloom...I never even knew she was ill....

"mrs robinson? are you trying to seduce me" A line that had stuck in this tired old brain longer than I care to remember... fare thee well .......

"mrs robinson? are you trying to seduce me"

Ah yes, the classic line.....I know I've used a form of that in jest with my husband.  That movie really was brilliant and whilst I loved it I think she was a little frustrated at being remembered for that one part.

Kind of ironic that you quote her as saying she is upset for being remembered for that role, yet the obits are saying basically the same thing your blog title does.  I guess it is name recognition.  Every Baby Boomer knows Mrs. Robinson.  Not many know the Miracle worker.

That was the best tribute I've read so far.

I can't say I've ever seen any of her movies, but fare thee well, Anne Bancroft. Perhaps they like "Miracle Worker" more where you are now.
