We're going to go to the Base Exchange at 10pm tonight to get us some copies of the new Harry Potter book. When the last one came out we bought a single copy - this time we're buying two because I want one of my very own! I don't want to have to wait until the kids are done reading, so I'm getting one specifically for me! Our friends' kids are getting all wizard-ed up. Davey asked me earlier if we were going in costume, and I said that we were....we're all going as muggl...

....and D will be home. I still don't know exactly when and I probably won't know exactly when until he's en route, but that's ok. It's not the 'when' that's important, it's that he makes it home safely and in time for the surgery that really matters. I got my bone growth stimulator yesterday. I wasn't expecting it to be as big as it is. I have to wear it over my back brace for 8 hours a day for the first 6 weeks, and it has a computer chip in it that lets my do...
I wrote an article a while back about some blind men and an elephant. The moral of the story was that sometimes things aren't really what they seem, that you may think something is one way.....but then your eyes are opened and you see it for what it really is. I saw some more of the elephant today. I saw a LOT more of the elephant today. The older I get, the more aware I am of the changes I experience. When situations happen that change my point of view,...
My friend Ferret (aka Mark) sent me this. Someone had linked to it on his 'myspace' blog. I appreciated it, and I think that you will appreciate it too, Joe Users. "Many letters have been sent to the Valley News concerning the homosexual menace in Vermont. I am the mother of a gay son and I've taken enough from you good people. I'm tired of your foolish rhetoric about the "homosexual agenda" and your allegations that accepting homosexuality is the same thing as advocati...
Just when we thought Rush Limbaugh and his addiction to prescription drugs were old news, we're informed that he could be facing criminal charges for 'doctor shopping'. For those who don't know, 'doctor shopping' is a term used to describe drug seeking activity by patients with either a dependency on or a taste for prescription narcotics. Patients will go to a variety of different physicans, sometimes with a real ailment that they milk for all it's worth or an exaggerated/false illness,...
I'm 10 days pre-surgery today, and about half that many away from D coming home. Things are starting to happen now...things that I've been thinking about, praying about and meditating on for weeks. D's last shift will be tomorrow. He's not sad to be leaving, he says. He hates it there. The people he deployed with are a good bunch for the most part. They had a little 'going home' dinner for him last night. He didn't want to go, but I told him he had to....
I got an email from England over the weekend with a suggestion in it. I opened the British paper this morning, and there was an article about the email I had recieved. Link Put an 'In Case of Emergency' number on your cell phone's phone book. The number of someone you trust, they don't have to be related to you...just someone who knows you and who knows that you have them listed as your emergency contact. Ever since I had a bad car accident a couple of years ago I've ...
Link Am I the only one who finds his statement about the London bombings offensive? It's like I said -- 40 people dead, 150 seriously wounded, 1,000 wounded, out of over 1 million people in that transit tube. It's not a successful terrorist attack, folks. So, if that wasn't a 'successfuk' attack, what is? Are there guidelines about what constitutes a 'successful' attack versus an 'unsuccessful' one? Pull you head out of your arse, Rush. People DIED. People were...
I made the mistake of watching a clip of video shot from someone's camera phone on MSNBC this morning. The person shooting was trapped in a tube train carriage next to one of the ones that exploded. The video shows rescue workers coming to evacuate people from the train. It has sound too. Had I know what I was going to hear, I don't think I would have watched it. People screaming for help. One voice very clearly screams "HELP........ME!!!!!!" My god. And s...

...I bake. It's true. That's how I deal with stress. I bake cakes, big fancy gateaus, loaded with frosing and cream. It all started when I was 15. I woke up in the middle of the night to hear my dad groaning in his bedroom next to mine. At first I was grossed out because I thought...well, y'know. Then I heard my mom say that she was going to call the doctor, and I knew that something was up. I got up and went to see what was going on. Dad was flat on ...
I'm pretty sure someone tried to get into my house last night. Thursday, early evening, I was walking past the open front door when I saw one of the local yobs standing in my front yard. I ducked back out of sight because I wanted to see what the hell he was doing, I don't trust him. He stood in the yard, up by Davey's bedroom window for about 30 seconds, then he walked off across the yard and up the street. Hmm. I wish I had confronted him now. Anyway, last night the ...

I'm doing playing Mrs Nice Grl with the kids in my neighborhood. I just got done telling them the same thing. Yesterday afternoon, a group of them were in my front yard, playing basketball with my boys (we got a basketball hoop recently - I was hoping to encourage my boys to play outside more often). I have a little park bench in my front yard that I like to go sit on and read in the evening sun. When I stepped outside to get the mail yesterday afternoon, I was greeted by a law...
