I've been knitting again.  I used to knit a lot, but kind of neglected it in the past few months.  Recovering from surgery has given me a chance to pick up my needles again, and I've been knitting up a storm.  This past week I've completed one shawl (which turned out beautifully) and have started 2 others (both for people I know, neither of whom know what I'm knitting for them - I want this to be a surprise) and I'm getting yarn today to make the kids winter hats and matching scar...

I've decided to start a regular feature on my blog. I've been reading '100 people who are screwing up America' and it's inspired me.  I'm going to write an article a day about public figures who piss me off.  They might be politicians, actors, actresses, evangelists, comedians, authors.....anyone who is in the public eye is fair game.  The articles will be much like the one I wrote earlier this week about Al Sharpton. So, starting tomorrow, look for the first installment of ...

It's healing really well; I'm hoping that the dimples you see from the subcutaneous sutures will flatten out over the next few weeks. It's still pretty numb on the surface and sore underneath....but getting better every day!

Booker T. Washington once said:  'There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs and the hardships of the Negro race before the public.  Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs - partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays.  Some of these people do not want the Negro lose his grievances, because they do not want to los...

....yes, you.  All of you.  No, it's not the percocet talking.  It's me.  You Joe Users, you people who blog here and who work here....you are a bunch of beautiful people.  I never imagined when I started blogging here what kind of friendships I would form...friendships that have seen some pretty crappy times but are, I think, the better for it. You all are fabulous.  All of you.  Except for you, Lucas.  I still don't care for you much.  O...

I have so much to blog about and so little 'upright' time left this morning, so I'm going to make this article a mishmash of this and that and the other. I got '100 people who are screwing up America' at the bookstore today, and I'm very, very excited to read it.  Mikey Moore, Al Sharpton, Dan Rather...they're all in there.  This book looks to be good stuff! I found out today just how rude some folks are.  I don't move real fast or real easy right now, so I try to stay out o...

My 12 year old daughter's Auntie paid her a visit for the first time this morning.  Her arrival caused a few tears and prompted a few phone calls to other members of the family who Auntie visits (or visited) on a regular basis. I kicked Auntie out a few years ago; told her she was staying far too long and that she was no longer welcome.  I know what a pain Auntie can be. On the one hand I'm sad because I wish there was some other way for my child.  On the other hand, I'm...

I have a problem with Norton, and I don't know how to fix it....I'm hoping that all the 'puter geeks here can give me some hints! I have SBC DSL as my ISP.  I also have Norton internet security.  Recently (as in the last week) I can't send and recieve email via Outlook without first disabling Norton.  SBC says it's Norton's fault, BUT....I haven't been able to play any Pogo games for the past week either, and Pogo says that's SBC's fault - which makes me wonder if it's really N...

I'm warning you now, if you're squeamish, don't read any further. In the interests of propriety, Im linking to this pic instead of posting it: Link That's my belly 5 days post-op.  The surgeon said her steri-stripped me instead of stapling me for a few reasons: staples can weaken tissue, they'd catch against my back brace and aggrivate the crap out of me, they make for less scarring, and he could user fewer steri-strips (12) as opposed to staples (said it would have been over 20...

For those of you who are interested, Dharma had her surgery this morning.  She's recovering quite well.  She should be out of the hospital in a few days.  I'm sure when she's released, she'll let everyone know how it was.  Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

He's home, JU.  I've been anticipating and dreading this for weeks. Anticipating because I love him and need him. Dreading because his return signals the start of a long and painful process for me. Friday morning at 0600 I'll report to St Elizabeth's hospital and I'll let the surgeons do their best to fix what I broke. I'm scared.  I think that anyone in my shoes would be scared.  I don't like pain, and I'm going to be in pain for an extended period of time.  Howe...

My husband is on his way home!  He finally got his intinerary this morning (his time) and emailed it to me.  I had been too tense to sleep; I was expecting to hear from him so I was up and down all night checking email looking for his message telling me what time his flight would arrive tomorrow. I finally got an email from him at 5am my time with the details of his journey in it.  The Shirt over there was as good as his word; D will be home the day he requested.  I ca...

The kids and I went to get the new Harry Potter book at the BX tonight.  We went at 10pm, stood in line for half an our waiting to get in, and got 2 numbered tickets (so we could buy 2 books.  People got one ticket per ID card holder)  The numbers on the tickets were for a door prize drawing after we bought out books.    We hung around the food court for an hour and ate some Baskin Robbins ice cream sundaes,  and then we decided to go get in line f...
