I've been knitting again.  I used to knit a lot, but kind of neglected it in the past few months.  Recovering from surgery has given me a chance to pick up my needles again, and I've been knitting up a storm.  This past week I've completed one shawl (which turned out beautifully) and have started 2 others (both for people I know, neither of whom know what I'm knitting for them - I want this to be a surprise) and I'm getting yarn today to make the kids winter hats and matching scarves (and I might tackle gloves this year as well).

I'm also going to get yarn to make this little beauty:

That's a faux fur coonskin cap.  Our Jake has been asking for one for ages, and when I found this pattern online and showed it to him he immediately asked me if I could knit it for him.  The pattern isn't too terribly hard; it's well within my skill level...but I've never knitted with fun fur before.  I've heard that it's devilishly slippery, which should make for some interesting times trying to work with it.  If it turns out nicely, I might just make myself one.  I have a thing for funky hats...I have one that's supposed to look like a cat (complete with ears), an orange stripey one that's supposed to look like Tigger, but my favorite is one that has a long tail hanging off the back with red and blue stuffed 'spikes' all over it.  My husband doesn't like me to wear that one in public (can't imagine why lol) so our son has inherited it:

I'm sure I don't know why D doesn't like to to wear that one outside of the house.....

So, I'm off to the craft store this afternoon, and hopefully Jake will be sporting a coonskin cap next week!

When I was 12 my family took me to the Alamo and I got a coonskin cap. For the rest of the summer (yes I still wore it in blazin' heat) until school started I never took off unless it was bath time or unless my mother physically wrestled it away from me to wash it. I hope Jake enjoys his as much. So good luck with it.

Some years back living in Buffalo I decided to take my GF at the time's suggestion of learning to knit so we could do it together while listening to music during those long winter months. I would usually read but I thought, "what the hell" so I tried it. My GF suggested something small but not me I wanted to try a shawl. So I went and bought all this yarn. I didn't finish it though. I got frustrated after I got so far and it look like a placemat that been shot by a shotgun at least twice.

Yes, it is...and I think I'll wear it for Halloween instead.

Your kids like weird hats

They get it from their momma!

I learned to knit when I was 7 or 8, and my first project was a blanket for my new kitten's bed.  I started it with 50 stitches and had less than 20 when I finished it....it was all cockeyed and holey, but I was ever so proud of it!
