I have so much to blog about and so little 'upright' time left this morning, so I'm going to make this article a mishmash of this and that and the other.

I got '100 people who are screwing up America' at the bookstore today, and I'm very, very excited to read it.  Mikey Moore, Al Sharpton, Dan Rather...they're all in there.  This book looks to be good stuff!

I found out today just how rude some folks are.  I don't move real fast or real easy right now, so I try to stay out of people's way when I'm in public.  In the store today three different people about knocked me down.  I'm not that hard to miss, I have a back brace, bone growth stimulator and cane, and I deliberately stay to the edge of the aisle.....but still, people who weren't paying attention to what they managed to miss me and hurtle into me.  One lady apologized for her little girl who about fell over me - I said it was ok, that I didn't mind kids not looking where they were going, it was the grown ups who did it that scared me!

My husband....has been pretty darn fantastic about some things this past week.  He's fetched things for me so I don't have to get up, he's helped me on and off the potty...and get this: he's even shaved my legs and washed my stinky feet for me in the shower (in addition to helping me in and out of the shower).  That's amazing.  He even volunteered to go and get tampons and pads for our daughter earlier this week so that I wouldn't have to leave the house.  For a guy who shudders every time the subject of puberty comes up, that's a huge deal.

Henry our daschshund has been better about going outside to pee since D got home.  He was marking the trashcan regularly and pooing in the laundry room occasionally, but that's almost stopped now.  We're his 'pack', see, and D's the alpha dog.  Henry wants to be in the alpha dog's good graces, and knows the peeing in the house won't achieve that.  He's also learned a new trick...when we say 'weee-nah!',  he howls.  D doesn't like it, but I think it's cute.

I got some really pretty yarn last week.  It's the color of autumn leaves, and I'm going to make a shawl out of it.  If it turns out ok, I'm going to make another one for someone I know.  I think she'll like it....

We've decided that having a house phone is redundant, so we're getting rid of it next month.  The only people we call on it are my folks in the UK, and we figured out that we can use pre-paid calling cards and our cell phones to do that...so the home number is going and we're just going to have cell phones.  SBC have screwed up our bill and/or service since day one, and we're tired of it.  So, we're going to go with cable internet (same price as DSL, but twice as fast) and save ourselves $40 a month.  We have free long distance on our cell phone plan, so we use those to make most of our calls as it is....it just seems silly to pay for something that we're not using.

I got me a new camera phone yesterday, and I'm really digging it....taking pictures all over the place and fooling around with ringtones and graphics and stuff.

My upright time is over, JU.  I'm going to go park my ass on the couch, start knitting that shawl and watch 'The Jacket'.  When that's over, I'm going to get stuck into my new book....

I know "exactly" how you feel Karen about people who just don't look where they're going. That usually happens to me when I'm in the grocery store. I'm usually on my cane or on my electric scooter. Now I can understand how someone might miss my cane (even though I'm jerky as all get out when using it), but how in the hell do you miss a "candy apple red" scooter? And when on the cane I don't move to good either. One of these days someones going to come real close to knocking me over and catch me in a bad mood. When that happens I'm going to trip them with my cane and say "Ooops, sorry about that". Lets see how they like them apples!

All that aside....I'm "real" glad to hear your home and doing better. My wife is going to have a simular sugery. She's got a herniated disc between L3 and L4 in her back. This is going to be tough on both of us. But tougher on her because I won't be able to help her much.

I was ready to do the same thing today.  My daughter says I'm turning into a crotchety old woman....I say I just want other people to realize that I can't move well right now and to watch where they're going.

From now on, I'm going to try and swing my cane out wider when I walk and if someone trips over it...well, there's their sign they were too damn close to me.  HA!

Tell your wife I said that it's really not so bad...not compared to the chronic pain she's been living with, anyway.  If you need any help/advice or if she just needs someone to talk to about it, would you please let her know I'm available?

Thanks!

Ah, see your doing better- per that old saying: if they're bitchin' it means they're happy.

Next time they get in your way or start being pushy, shake your cane at 'em and yell, "Young Whippersnapper!" (even if the are older than you)

PS It works even better if you sharpen a spike on the bottom of your cane!

REST!!!!!

DOgs and Alpha Males!  I never thought of that!  Thanks for sharing.  Sorry about the rude people.

Of course I can!  Email them to me with a description of where and how and I'll be happy to do it.

Today was the first day that I went to the store, and I can feel that I did more than usual this evening.  Don't worry, MM, D's making sure I don't do too much.  I'm not allowed to do anything at home - I tried to sit and fold laundry this evening and got yelled at.  He's making sure I do what the doc told me to - even going so far as to lay down in the afternoons with me to keep me company so's I wont be tempted to get up and go see what everyone else is up to.  He's cooking supper right now...I wanted to help but he said no.

REST!!!!!

I am.  Im not going to screw this fusion up; I've waited and suffered too long to get it done so I'm going to do whatever it takes to heal properly and fully.

DOgs and Alpha Males! I never thought of that! Thanks for sharing. Sorry about the rude people.

I had thought that when D left Henry would forget about him, but that wasn't the case.   There's always going to be rude people; I'll have to learn how to get along with them - or better still, how to get even! HAHAHAHAHA!

We dont have a cell phone-havent found a deal yet that will give each of us a cell for less than the $60 per month we currently pay for the land line, so Vonage is looking pretty good.

We have Cingular, the family talk plan.  I love the rollover minutes - those are one of the reasons we just renewed our contract.

Our number will probably change, Karen, so if I decide to do this I'll be setting it up on Monday and will be sure to send you our new #.

Cool!  You already have my cell number, but I'll send you D's as well, now that we're going to be relying on them.

I'm off to la-la land now, and imagine I might find dharma wandering around in that same fog soon...(astral travel is a real thing, yanno.)

Astral travel IS a real thing.  The last time I did it was April, when I put myself in D's room and watched him sleeping.  I managed to say his name before I got too pooped and had to withdraw...and he emailed the next day to tell me that he had dreamt about me and could have sworn he heard my voice.  Groovy, huh?

I'll see ya in the fog, S.
