In the course of our clinical rotations, our class has to visit a number of long term care facilities and local hospitals to put into practice what we learned in the classroom. It became apparant to a few of ues yesterday that we have, until now, been spolied by the excellent standard of care we saw at other facilities. The place we were at yesterday left us angry and sad at what we saw. The first inkling of things to come was given to us in the lobby. We gathered there, waitin...

After my surgery was over this morning I called the college to see if they had my exam results from yesterday. I passed. All three parts. Now I have to get my high school transcript and two letters of recommendation together and send them in with my official application to the nursing program, wait for them to ask me to come in for an interview, hope that they like me enough to offer me a place and hope that my financial aid paperwork goes through and I can finance what I can...
It seems as if I'm only ever writing update articles lately. That gots to change. It's Sunday night, again. I have ahead of me a week I've been dreading since all plans came together and I could see it as it really was: busy. Too busy for my liking. Tomorrow morning my and a classmate are going 30 miles south of here to take an entrance exam at a college there. If we a) pass this exam, get a copy of our HS and college transcripts attached to c) our completed appli...

It's been a looong week, and it's only Wednesday. I studied Sunday afternoon for my final exam on Monday. Whilst I was studying Sunday evening, I ate a handful of raw peanuts that I'd bought on the pervious day. I loves me some peanuts; I ate them raw as a kid and had a hankering for some. Sunday night - actually 1am on Monday - I woke up with a bellyache. You know how it hurts when you get punched in the stomach; right at the solar plexus? Yeah, it was like that, b...
I'm going to be out of a job soon. The little gentleman I look after has decided that it's in his best interests to move into an assisted living facility. The neurological disease he's had for many years is progressing rapidly (I personally believe that he's got the start of Alzheimers in addition to his other problems) and his savings are dwindling away. He's going to sell the house that he built with his own hands and move into....well, into a place where there will be someone ...
So, I have labrynthitis. I hope I spelt that right; my screen is about 45 degrees out of whack for me right now. I've had to take the week off work and a day off school (you know it's bad when I can't go to class). All I've done this week is stagger around the house, bumping into stuff and knocking things over and feeling very queasy. The meds make me sleepy and I hate losing a day to sleep. The first morning I took it, The People's Court was on and I was looking ...

As those of you who have read my blog in the past know, we have a very good thrift store here on base. Some of the items are consigned and have stupid, stupid prices attached to them. For instance, there was an evening gown there today. Circa 1970, made out of horrible polyester and an equally (if not more so) disgusting pale blue-green color with lace ruffles around the neck, on the bib and sleeves and on the bottom hem, it has sweat stains on the armpits and little pills all dow...
There was a job fair at my college today. For some reason, someone on the faculty decided that it would be a good idea to have a DJ come along and set up a disco in the cafeteria. When I mosied down there on my lunch break I heard 'you're gonna boogie-oogie-oogie til you just can't boogie no more....' and saw a bunch of people line-dancing over on the dance floor that had been set up. I joined them. I couldn't resist it; it's been years since I went out dancing and I had hon...
I have a test date for my pre-entry exam to nursing school. November 4th, at 9am. I'm going to start studying this weekend. They're not only looking at nursing aptitude, they're looking at general education too. So, I'm going to go get myself some books from the library and start refreshing my memory. It's been a looooong time since I graduated High School and I'm sure that I've forgotten some stuff! I've also been in contact with the Education office here on base a...
I'm almost at the end of the classroom part of the course I'm taking. In a couple of weeks we'll be doing clinicals, and then, at the start of December...we'll be done. I've been thinking about what I want to do next. The nursing program at the college I currently attend is full until Fall of 2009, so that's out of the question. I just don't have that kind of time. So, I've been looking for alternitives. And, I've found one. There's another college ab...
I have a pretty good 'gut' instinct. I know when someone isn't being totally truthful with me; when they're not all that they claim to be - and when they're fabricating things that they've done and places that they've been. I've had my eye on someone in my life for a while now. They started off small, with little white lies here and there, intermingled with truth so as to disguise them better. When people didn't notice - or didn't call them out on them - the lies got bigger....
Although I've been knitting for 30 years, there's something I've never tried. Knitting socks from the toe up. Most of the sock patterns I have require that you start from the top and work your way down. Bascially, you cast on 60-ish stitches, join them together to form a round, and knit a tube. You separate your stitches for the heel and when you're done working that back and forth, you join the whole thing back together to form another tube and knit until your sock is long eno...
