I got a lot of spam in my lunchtime emails today.

Someone has decided to be pathetically childish and sign me up for a bunch of newletters and free trials of this that and the other.

It was kind of silly for them to do that, especially from my home email address....because there are only a handful of people who have it.  Most people have my gmail or our family yahoo adresses.

They also made a mistake when they signed me up for a free trial version of something - because when I went to cancel it, I found that because I didn't have the user name and ended up having to call the company.  I explained to them that I didn't sign up for it, and asked if they could tell me the IP address and location of whoever did sign me up for it.

They can.

So, now I'm going to call and email the rest of the companies who I got spam from today and see if they can provide me with the same information.

It's going to be interesting to see where these fraudulent applications have come from (and yes, they are fraudulent).

Anyone else have an idea who could be doing this?  I think that we ought to start taking bets as to which city and state the IP address will show up as originating in....

Since when are posts edited for content? That's the very first time it's ever happened to me. I mean, if Karen were offended by my use of foul language and removed my post, I couldn't say anything.

I've seen a lot of threads with profanity on them, and I've posted a few myself -- this is the first "editing" that's ever happened to me.

Is this a new policy? Just wondering, not trying to start anything, just wondering.

It's a WinCustomize moderator overstepping his authority. Rather than threatening to remove it from WC, it should have just been removed from WC. Yet one more problem with the crossposting now going on with certain categories.

Frankly, this xxx'ing pissed me off.

It shouldn't have happened. I sent in a complaint.

when ever a post gets crossed to WC .. a WC admin has full rites to remove offencive text if so deemed necessary....blog all you want, how you want .. but when it gets drug over to this "Family" site ..it will be moderated under the same guidelines as any other thread here... if you dont want a thread moderated.. then dont cross it with WC's boards...

A) It's cross-posted automatically from our forums to yours. We have no choice in the matter.
Sorry, but the admin I wrote agreed with me that editing the thread was improper.
C) The WC moderators do have recourse: pulling the offending thread from WC so it can remain --unmolested-- on JU, which is how it should have been handled.

You expect us to respect your culture, but you won't respect ours.

Yes, this clashing of cultures is a bad thing that can only be remedied with the option to syndicate to the JU forum without it showing up on WC at the very least. As far as I heard, this crosslinking of both sites is not going away, so all I ask for is a checkbox where I can exclude my blogs from showing up on WC when I choose to have them on the JU forum.

In the movie Blue Thunder, didn't JAFO mean "Just Another F---ing Operator"?

NO - it's "Just Another F---ing Observer" - Jafo is a official race observer or spotter if I remember right.

Yes, a "Syndicate this Article to Other Stardock Sites?" checkbox would be most welcome.

I would use it, sometimes. Not every Internet/Computing related article should be at WC and I'd be happy to do my part in keeping them off, if I were given the option.

My god, get a life Gene Nash, u spend way too much time and minimal brain power on having your "Rights" and free speech stepped on....If you don't own the site, you don't have a whole lot of say in what they want to do or what they edit....go "Mod ur Mac" or whatever else will allow you to do as you want, just quit yer bitchin.....sheesh.....

i had full rites once. an experience i wouldn't care to repeat without a half dozen percodans and them two churning brunettes from the bk commercial...if at all.

Give me a couple hours with half a dozen Percodans and the two churning brunettes and I might be ready for last rites.

This isn't about free speech, this is about the forced clashing of two different site cultures and the problems it brings.

As usual, your reading comprehension is so low you fail to note I never talked about either "rights" or "free speech" being violated. The "rights" line was brought up by one of your crowd.

If you don't own the site, you don't have a whole lot of say in what they want to do or what they edit....

I suggest you reread point B in my response to HG_Eliminator. The principals of JU as repeatedly laid down by the owner were violated, namely that "offensive" content will be removed from the forums if necessary but that the editing of the comments is for the person who owns the thread to decide. I'm just parotting the party line.

There's a way to handle it that is in accordance with the principals of both sites. That wasn't done. A mistake was made and they are going to be talked to. End of story.

The sites can co-exist, but you need to drop this "we can do whatever we want so deal, losers!" attitude. You don't have to violate the integrity of JU to maintain your own integrity. You can have your standards without violating our standards and condescendingly telling us to eat it.

Do as you like with the content as it is presented on WC, but don't mess with the underlying content as it exists on JU.

My god... Gene Nash

Thank you. When can I expect your tithes?

My advice for dharmagrl (I hope I got your nickname right) Is to report it to the 3 credit agencies (equifax and 2 others I cant remember) Also , you can turn in this case to your local district attorney as well.

My grandmother had her identity stolen once , someone bought $1000 of jewelery from QVC and had the bill sent to her house. My grandmother immediately filed a report with the police , and the police handed the case to the da , the result , she didnt have to pay , because it was reported immediately.

So the sooner you report the better.

Yes Please, a checkbox for Jesse and the gang to keep this confined to "Their Culture", to whine when someone does something bad to them....there are plenty of jerks in the world that will steal your identity or sign you up for things and lots worse just for the fun of it, if they know you or not, but unless all you want to hear is sympathy from others about the Bad Men out there, do what you can to take care of the problem and move on....or start a thread and let the sympathy pile on so you can feel better

well as one cro-magnon said to the other, "lets stand near the edge of the mastadon pit and keep starin down into it until a buncha them neanderthals elbow us outta the way so they can get a better view of what we're lookin at. then we just push em over the side. they don't fit in and they stink."
