....that there are people here who kick ass.

Who aren't afraid to be totally honest about themselves or their circumstances.

Who have no pretentions, or who put on airs-and-graces.

Who are able to see through the BS and cut to the truth.

Those are the people who make me want to keep blogging.

Then again.....

There are people here who will claim to be anything that fits their particular argument at the time.

Who refuse to provide any factual information to back up their claims whatsoever.

Who have come very close to being exposed in the web of deception they have created for themsleves.

Who refuse, time and again, to admit when they are mistaken, despite being factually proven to be wrong.

These are the people who make me want to stop blogging.  To throw in the towel, to say 'to hell with it all'.

There, I said it.

But had I done that I'd have been accused of flaming...so I can't really win, can I?

This article wasn't about you, I know from past experience (and this one) that I can be straight up with you....but there are other people here who don't have the presence of mind to be able to differentiate...dig?

I knitted Lexi a hat, btw.  I'll mail it if you want.

Im tired of dancing around, trying to refer to general issues or types of bloggers without naming names, because inevitably someone who you werent even thinking about when you mention these things thinks the comments are directed at them, them alone, and them personally.

You know what, you're right.  Either way, I can't wain, so I may as well have one person pissed at me for flaming them as opposed to a whole bunch being pissed at me for thinking that I flamed them......

I think that is the best approach. That way there is no confusion. Your words will be interpreted as you intended. Let the listener decide for themself if your words will insult or upset, and let them deal with the results in their fashion. Regardless of the result you will have been true to yourself.

OMG and theyre organizing, too, over on Peteys thread......and i have personally been named King of the Morons who are trying to Control this Site!

Well, guess what? I've now officially been declared one of the morons and blacklisted from Pete's blog.....oh, the heartbreak of it all....so much for trying to stay neutral, I suppose!!!
on Jul 05, 2004

I'm one of the morons as well, because I called him out for calling me a 'vile woman' and suggesting that he and Dave could have a blast with hookers and whores when we went to England (that was on the thread when we had found out we had just got denied orders there).

It's all such BS.

Finn...cool name.  Is that short for Finlay?

You are just SO mean! It is a neat name...and not one he'll have to share with many others his age, either, I'd wager. I always used to hate that fact that there were other Teresa's in my class at school, so we had to use our last initials to differentiate us....

Dharma your not really thinking about not blogging are you?

Dharma your not really thinking about not blogging are you?

Yes, I am.  Well, I was.  It's just not so much fun anymore.  I'm caught between a rock and a hard spot...I find it very cathartic, but incredibly frustrating at the same time.

This blog was one of my hardest efforts in self-control. I've been on vacation, checking JU once in a while, but not really responding to much...when I saw this, I was dying to jump in...it makes me sad when two of my favorite people around here aren't getting along. But, I finally listened to my better judgement, which told me that you were both mature to work it out...(I should listen to my better judgement more often--apparently, it's often right!)

But back to the topic--
I agree that there's been a lot of venom spewed around here lately, but I've also begun to realize that what I think is offensive and personal, others don't see that way. To me, telling someone "f#$ you" is about as personal as it gets, but to others, it doesn't have the same degree of negativity associated with it.

I look at it this way--I have different vocabularies depending on who I am dealing with. Words that I will not utter at work at work flow freely from my mouth when I'm sitting in the pub having a pint. (my mouth can rival that of any sailor out there--though I've tried to tame it a little! ) However, I view JU as a "work place vocabulary" environment, whereas many think of it as a pub vocabulary enviornment. I wouldn't think twice of telling a friend that she was being a mad eejit if she said something stupid at the pub, but I'd probably tell my boss something like "while that idea has some merit, let's consider this other position." The first is personal, but not meant that way, the second is constructive.

So, welcome to the JoeUser pub.

Of course, this theory relies on the idea that everyone here is actually good and decent at heart and that we are all friends. I'd like to believe so, but recently I've had a few moments of doubt.

Like someone else said, this is cyclical--the difference this time is that the site is bigger, there are more people, and the disagreements don't appear to be "among friends" like they were in the past.

So, after all that (sorry I rambled, I'm making up for time away!) it all boils down to minding your manners--which is a skill that is often forgotten in today's world!
