....that there are people here who kick ass.

Who aren't afraid to be totally honest about themselves or their circumstances.

Who have no pretentions, or who put on airs-and-graces.

Who are able to see through the BS and cut to the truth.

Those are the people who make me want to keep blogging.

Then again.....

There are people here who will claim to be anything that fits their particular argument at the time.

Who refuse to provide any factual information to back up their claims whatsoever.

Who have come very close to being exposed in the web of deception they have created for themsleves.

Who refuse, time and again, to admit when they are mistaken, despite being factually proven to be wrong.

These are the people who make me want to stop blogging.  To throw in the towel, to say 'to hell with it all'.

There, I said it.

I hear you. I'm on the verge of it myself. I thought if I restricted myself to a few "trusted blogs" I'd be safe. I was wrong. The blankity-blanks pop up everywhere.

I'm thinking maybe if I just stick to my own blog, turn off the comments, and don't peek out the door... I think I'm developing "Blogger Agoraphobia."

Why dont you just blacklist them? or not read anything they write?

I dont know if you are having a go at a collective, or at one individual... but why must you turn the forums into a place of bitching about each other?

We can bitch about the govenrment, welfare payments or racism as much as we want in these forums... but why resort to bitching about each other?

We are a community, and Dharma, you are well respected here... you had a blog dedicated to your appreciation... I would think that gives you some responsibility to act accordingly.

BAM!!!

True, but they can still have a go at you on other people's blogs and comments. Little Whip's suggestion of an "ignore this user" feature that would obliterate them from your sight no matter where you are is looking better and better.

For the first time today, i actually found myself typing IN CAPS at someone and really wishing i could just reach through the screen and choke the shit out of them. It was definitely time for a break, which i promptly took....because the day this quits being enjoyable for me will be the day i delete the whole mess, never to return.

Its hard not to be sucked into this crap when the blogger follows you from thread to thread, mentioning you by name, claiming youve said things youve never said...( I have NEVER said certain people dont deserve temporary help, btw, yet have been accused of this repeatedly on many different threads now by one particular blogger.) One feels compelled to respond to this type of slander, because we know if a newer reader is seeing this, or one who is unfamiliar with the history of each blogger, they may believe it.

And that is EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

Muggaz, I'm bitching, just to bitch. Just as we all have a right to bitch about America, racism, welfare et al, I have the right to bitch about the community and the people that constitute that community...oh, and I have blacklisted the people, and I don't read their articles, but when they pop up on other people's threads spreading the same propaganda...like LW says, one feels compelled to respond.

This is getting to be not-so-much-fun anymore.  I think I'm ready to be done.

First of all, I just want to say Brava to Dharma the blunt....

Second of all, I can't respond to ANY of your posts unless I do it through the forums...what is up with that? Weirdness!!

Ignore User. Be Gone From My Blogging Experience! Everywhere! Everyday! On every thread! POOF. Its like virtual murder,,,hehe.

Oh yes, please.....this is one of my FAVORITE things about AOL message boards....someone gets on your nerves, you click the "ignore author" button, and they disappear from existence....on every single message board on AOL....it's heavenly!!

This is getting to be not-so-much-fun anymore. I think I'm ready to be done.

No, you are not....it is not allowed.....I'm older than you, and I say you can't leave, so THERE. ~

Yes, big sis.  I won't leave, I promise.

I would love the 'ignore user' feature though.

And be warned...it's only going to get blunter from here.

I don't know about Dharma but it scared me!

Dharma, all I can say is if you do decide to quit let me know please so I can start bothering you with email!

I understand completely where you are coming from. I went through a phase where I was writing a lot and interacting a lot here. I felt a sense of community. And I wanted to be part of that community. Time has passed though, posts have become argumentative and bitter. Folks have formed factions (as will always happen) and many are staunchly ignoring truth. And I have little tolerance for incompetence. I have seen too much of that here lately and have felt the need to distance myself from it. My last couple articles have pretty much summed up my thoughts and feelings as of late. My writing has been more for myself lately. I plan on still visiting and reading some here. There are still great folks posting here. But I need to get some space. Sure, I miss my regular interaction with my friends here. But it is just something I need to do. Hope to still see you around here when I stop by.

ive found that a small amount of marijuana often helps to put things in perspective

Unfortunately, my husband's a cop.  A military cop, and we live in military housing.  I'm also a PI, and can lose my certification if I get busted....so the cons far outweigh the pros of my partaking.

Dev, I'll let you know.  I can tell you that the time is drawing near.  I used to really enjoy being part of this community, and I still do enjoy interacting with some folks on here....but there are those who, as you say, are incompetent, ignorant and totally idiotic, and despite my best efforts to blacklist and otherwise ignore those users their stupidity permeates the entire community and makes it a toxic place to be.  I enjoy debating, I enjoy having other people's ideas stimulating me to think outside of my own little box....but what's been going on around here lately hasn't been debating.  Talking to these folks is akin to screaming at a wall.....and then they laugh at our 'blindness' because we refuse to see their insanity as rationality.  I find it incredibly frustrating, and I also find myself walking away from the computer and still being riled about it half an hour later.  That's not healthy.  It's not something I need.

I too have found myself on numerous occasions wanting to reach through the screen and throttle someone...or shake them until their teeth rattle!

Okay, good...so you'll forget about calling it quits as well, then? Gosh, I LOVE feeling the power!!

Most on here seem more than willing to argue their points, and most on here seem to have only a *few* that really get them steamed each time...

Yep, I see the same thing....MOST of us seem to be mature enough to respect other people's points of view, and to know when to just back off and agree to disagree...but some.....well, you know......

And be warned...it's only going to get blunter from here.

Okay, consider us warned.....and who knows, after adding another year to my age come Monday, I may find myself getting a little more blunt as well....

I've wavered over the delete button, literally, several times in the last few months. I've decided that if I "leave" because of these people I'll leave my articles here, though. I don't want to leave, but I don't like dreading to post something, and I think if I had to forgo comments it wouldnt' be worth it to me.

We have discussed the "ignore" feature, but it is a feature that will take time to code, so it has to wait until the non-free sites get caught up.  (Since this site is free, it has to take back seat to the sites that fund it).

Another way to "ignore" people is not to use the forum.  Just go to blogs of people that you like.

Dharma, you know you can leave- you're too addicted!  lol

on Jul 03, 2004

Baker, please don't leave.  You're one of the people who make blogging here worthwhile.  I won't leave if you won't.

Karma...you know me too well.  That's scary

on Jul 03, 2004
I will say that I often wish for the Ignore User function to make it's appearance here as well. That being said I hope you stay and blog on Dharma.
on Jul 03, 2004

Thanks, Greywar.

I'm just so damn tired of a few people who lower the tone of the whole establishment, you know?
