Every week since the series started, my family and I have gathered in the living room to watch American Idol.

Especially on the nights when people get booted.  We sit on the edge of our seats, chanting "Bucky! Bucky!  Bucky for the cut!!" under our breaths.

And every week we are disappointed.

I really don't know what America is thinking when they vote.  Look at the talent that's on that stage night after night - Chris, Taylor, Elliot, Mandisa, Kelly (although I do think that her ditzy blonde charm isn't going to last much longer.  It's wearing thin on me already)...there are singers up there that are simply out of Bucky's league.

So why is he still there?  His singing is akin to growling when compared to the other contestants.  He's flat when he should be sharp, sharp when he should be flat, pitchy, out of tune and out of rhythm....he's just a mess.

I don't know why he's still there.  Surely he must know that he's NOT going to win....he must be able to tell that his voice simply isn't up to par.  He HAS to know that.  Even Kevin 'Chicken Little' was a better singer than Bucky, and he got booted last week!

I have a theory: I think that there's a conspiracy going on.  Every time there's a vote, one half of North Carolina votes for Bucky and the other half votes for Kelly Pickler.  Regardless of performance, they vote for their native son and daughter, simply because they're from North Carolina.    The 'Good Ol' Boy' network is in full effect, and that's why the near talentless Bucky (and who in the heck names their boy-child 'Bucky' or 'Rocky' anyway????) and the dumb blonde Kelly are still in the contest.

WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!!  Start voting based on talent, not just because they come from the same state as you!!!!

If Bucky gets through to the final 6, I will have lost all faith in America and will never watch American Idol again.  Because it won't be a competition based on talent any more.

It's starting to look that way now - it aint about what you can do, it's about where yer from.

That stinks.

Once again, the lackluster Bucky is passed over for banishment.  He stays, and Mandisa goes.

What the fuck, America???  Has everyone lost their minds?  Are they tone deaf?  Or is it, as I said before, a local thing; the good ol' boy network is in effect?

I just doesn't make sense to me.  No sense at all.

Oh let's all vote,  vote Bucky off!!  I agree with you, and I don't know anything about pitch, I know he sounds lousy.

Hey,  the name "Rocky" ain't sooo bad....

Bucky's twin brother is Rocky (or did you already know that?).

I missed the results show. I am in shock!! I can't believe Mandisa got the boot!!

I've disliked Bucky from the start too. I know a hundred of the same guy from back home in hickville (one was actually named Bucky). I don't get it either.

As far as popularity over talent, this same thing happened on 'Dancing With The Stars', when Jerry Rice beat out Lisa Rinna to make final 3 based pretty much on the voting alone. One might want to look into how the voting system actually affects the overall rankings; I know it was screwy on DwtS.

Vote for the worst.com doesn't even explain it.

Well, I'm pleased to hear the franchise is as bad in America as it is in Australia. I've got be honest and say I've not watched 10 minutes of any of the shows over the 4 or 5 years it has been here. I don't have anything against the kids for giving it a go and good on them if they kick-start their careers. I just think these young people are niave and more often than not, left bitter about their experience.

And, as you have pointed out, it is not a talent contest but more about who can illicit the most votes from viewers.

I dont watch the show, but get a synopsis every week on the morning drive time show.  Elliot is a Favorite son here in the Old Dominion, and they are always pushing people to vote for him.  I suspect a few stations in NC are doing the same for Bucky.

As I said, I have never watched the show, but I heard Mandissa put Simon in his place.  She should have won for that reason alone!

This is an interesting show because the producers get to pick the people who America gets to vote on. They pick some people for talent, some for looks and others simply because they will make good TV. Good TV being drama. (Brenda Gethers even mentioned it in her top 24 selection )

The fact is it is easy to manipulate the vote. There are dialers out there for your PC. All you need is a modem and you can make hundreds if not thousands of calls in the voting window. Now if someone was seriously intent on making a mockery of the show they could place a hundred PC’s (or more) dialing.

I really like this show because for some people it is an opportunity to get signed but for others it is a springboard into the entertainment industry and for the rest it is just fifteen minutes in the spotlight. It is all what you make of it. Take Ryan Star (and that wasn't her given name, she changed it just before the show) for example. She has used her American Idol experience to get other jobs. In entertainment, a familiar face no matter how boring it was is still better than a nobody. That is why VH1 has had such success with their reality run. They even gave Ryan Star and extra fifteen minutes.

Hey now Dharma!
Don't fergit Chris is from NC too!

We got all them bases covered with the 3 from NC, now see here, Chris has got all them headbangers, skateboarders, and the like, all sewed up, he even gits the bald and beautiful crowd stirrin'...

Now as to that thar Bucky boy, why he's appeelin' to everybody who ever owned a Lynyrd Skynyrd Tee Shirt, mounted a shotgun rack in the Pickup, grew a pony tail, and hollar'd "Hell Yeah" while shotgunnin a Bud....them folks don't jus' populate NC, (and they wooden be a votin' if'n it was huntin' season)

An 'course lil ol Kellie, why she's the pure embodiment of a Daisy Duke for the 21st cen'try! With her Pa in Jail, she's jus as forlorn as a lost kitten, an' jus as cute.

That thar Mandisa, now she sho could sang, but, lets be totely honest now, she were a bit hard on the eyes from the neck down, and country jus wuttin her style........

( I'm personally pulling for Taylor, but odds are on a Chris/Kellie finale )

did she EVER!  and with grace and style!!  what a lady! and to Dynosoar I say Mandissa can always lose the weight,  Simon is an adult with a bad attitude that probably he'll never change.....

Bucky's twin brother is Rocky (or did you already know that?).

No,  I didn't know that, just that my cousin and her dad had that nickname.

So what you are saying is that one has a sympton that can be cured, and the other is incurable?

I dont have to watch the show.  between you guys and the drive time radio, I get all the highlights!

Reminds me of a saying "I may be fat but you're ugly and I can diet"

I actually like Simon. People love to hate him but he does tend to apologize when he is wrong and people don't like to admit that he's rarely wrong.

In my opinion, there hasn't been anyone worth noting since Clay Aiken.
