Jake had to see the pediatrician this afternoon, for a refill of his ADD meds and a general checkup.  Since I got diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse, I had some questions about whether Jake had it or not (I had read a study that said that there are certain physical symptoms associated with MVP and knew that Jake had at least one of them).

This doctor is just fabulous.  We've taken to calling him the 'Rockin' Doc' because he does just that - he rocks.  He's friendly, he's funny, he's not afraid to be goofy with the kids...he's just awesome.  He and his partner in crime put Shea's rib back in right before Christmas, and he was so great then that I decided to knit him a 'Hot Head' beanie as a token of my appreciation.  When I gave it to him today, he immediately put it on and declared he would wear it the rest of the afternoon.

I told him my concerns with Jake, and he gave him a quick look over - Jake does indeed have a few of the characteristics that are associated with MVP, but after a thorough listen the Rockin' Doc didn't hear anything to worry about.  He did say that the typical women with MVP is a little tiny anxious blonde.  Huh.  I'm not blonde, and that's all I have to say about that.

Jake's fine.  He got his meds refilled for another 90 days, at which time we'll go back and see the Rockin' Doc again.

I'm really looking forward to that.

(Oh, and I gave him the URL for this blog....I post pics of what I knit on here and am using it as a point of contact for people who want me to make them something.  So, Rockin' Doc, if you read this......thank you as infinitum for being an outstanding physician.  There are people who we meet on this dharma and life path who really make an impact on us and who we will remember long after their physical presence has left us.  You are one of those people.  When my children are grown and maybe have children of their own, they will reminsce and look back at their childhoods, and they will remember you, as shall I.  I think that's one of the biggest compliments I can give you.)

Oh, I thought it was Miler or me!

Oh you guys rock too, you especially!  And, if you wanted me to make you a beanie or a scarf, all you have to do is ask.  I'd love to make you a little something.

Congrats on finding a good one! I am pretty happy with my pediatrician too. I wouldn't call her rockin' but she is nice, listens to what the parents have to say and is pretty laid back. I really appreciated her reassuring nature with my first baby. She kept telling me I was doing a great job and that made a world of difference when you've got the blues and think you're the worst mom whose ever had a baby.

It's awesome that you show your appreciation too. Too many people only speak out negatively. The good ones need a pat on the back as much as the bad ones need a scolding.

Coming to this small little town...oh man...healthcare here is so much different than it was in Las Vegas.

The three doctors I've seen here have really gotten to know me and listen to my concerns. Even in Urgent Care. I'm used to pretty much writing out my own script and heading out the door, but the doctors here really help you figure out what's going on and are really concerned about ALL of you, you know?

My family physician is really high tech...holy crap...she can send my script to Walgreens via computer, etc., etc. All my records are electronic. The thing I like the most though is that my local clinic and hospital are affiliated with the Mayo Clinic System. Everyone likes that word.

I'm glad you found an awesome doctor to take care of your little ones. What a rarity.
