When I was younger, I felt an affinity to punk rock and it's style.  Actually, it was verging on gothic...not full on vampire fangs, white faced and red lipped gothic, but a more urban, grungy kind of gothic ( The Damned, Siouxsie and The Banshees et al were favorites of mine)

Anyway, my parents being as they were (wholesome, simple country folks - who just happened to be pretty strict about stuff) I never was really able to indulge in my punk-goth tendencies.  I always had linitations on how I could dress and what I could do.  I felt stifled, and that led to my not really finding myself until I was nearly 30.

Because I felt stifled as a teenager, I often find myself looking wisftfully at clothes and shoes that I would, had I been given a chance, worn when I was younger.  Like the pair of shoes I found a week before Christmas.  They're what I call 'bondage boots', and they look like this:

She and I were in Hot Topic, and we saw those beauties on clearance.  With 50% off.  In my size.  I, like a good, mature mother, didn't buy them.  I wanted to.  Oh, how I wanted to.  And, after we had left the store, I almost went back to get them.  But, I didn't, and I spent the last couple of weeks kicking myself for not buying them.  I tried to tell myself that I'd never wear them, that they were for kids, not for a 36 year old woman, that I was too old - despite the fact that today I went out in a pair of black and white pinstriped pants, a long sleeved Blondie T-shirt (that's the Debbie Harry Blondie, not the cartoon chick) and a pair of black and white converse.  I kept telling myself that I didn't need them - but at the same time I knew that I really, really wanted them and that had I bought them I'd have FOUND outfits to wear them with.

Dave and I went to the mall today.  We went to Hot Topic.  Miraculously, those boots were still there.  I tried them on....and they fit.  Perfectly.  So, I spent $22 and I bought them.  I'm wearing them now, actually.  And you know what?  It feels great.  I'm NOT too old for them.  I don't care what 'What Not To wear' says, this is ME, dammit.  I'm wearing what I want, and I'm fekkin' LOVING it.

I got me some bondage boots, and they rawk!

what makes you feel sexy makes you look sexy!

Yeah. Exactly...

$22 bucks?? They're a STEAL

That's what I said too!

Not to get technical, but *real* bondage boots are a wee bit different

Those look like ballet point shoes but without the blocks in the toes. I've done some ballet and it was painful even WITH the blocks....so I can only imagine the kind of pain those things inflict. What is that, a 5" heel? 6", maybe? Wow.

PS, wear what ya like, chica, what makes you feel sexy makes you look sexy!

*sigh* you get it, so why doesn't my husband?????

There's lots of things I wish I could wear but simply can't because I'm too chubby. If you like it, wear it. My main issue is when middle-aged women don't dress tastefully. It's not that they aren't beautiful, its just...that I think there's a time when you have to pack some things away and pull them out once in a while and look at them wistfully instead of wearing them daily.

There are some things that I won't wear. Like ultra mini skirts and daisy duke shorts. And halter tops that don't have a built in bra. I don't do them because...well, just because I don't have the body for them. Anything else, though...is fair game. I particularly like slogan tees - my favorites at the moment are my 'talk nerdy to me' one and my Napoleon Dynamite 'gimme your tots' one. But I wear them with either a thermal shirt, or a dress shirt with a collar under them so they look more...well, dorky. I'm proud of my dorkiness; I'm trying to make it cool to be geeky....and I think it's working!!

I think dave is in for some surprises - and treats!   can we get a close up of your legs? With them on of course!

My favorite slogan shirt is "Because I said so...". I also have "Everybody loves a country girl". There's two I want from Torrid--the fat girl version of Hot Topic. One has a picture of a cow and says "No bull" and the other one says "I love Italian boys" lol.

They're what I call 'bondage boots', and they look like this:

Those would look cool with a kilt.  They remind me of tall Dr. Martens (but a much better bargain).

I am afraid I will have to hold my opinion till I see ya in em.. nekkid of course.....{wide eyed look of innocence}

Ya got a pair of boots at a price that is great, you feel sexy in them...what more can a gal want? Hubby doesn't HAVE to

BTW, I"m not going to reply to Marcie cause I'm in a funky mood........BUT just let me say that no matter what one's age,
if it makes ya happy, to H--- with anyone who doesn't like what ya wear! Cause it's YOUR life!

So there.

Great boots, fantastic price....I have to admit, I was looking at the same ones and decided that I'd never wear them....I would love to, but I'm in yoga pants all the time and they just don't work.

I just got a plaid miniskirt to pair with my knee high black boots (skinny boots, not bondage) and I have to agree with...If you feel sexy, you are sexy....

I'll see what I can do....but that's highly probable!

My favorite slogan shirt is "Because I said so...".

OOOH!! I want THAT one!

They remind me of tall Dr. Martens (but a much better bargain).

Yeah, that's what I think too. Matter of fact, I used to wear docs with a plaid mini skirt...these would look good with that too, like you said!

I am afraid I will have to hold my opinion till I see ya in em.. nekkid of course.....{wide eyed look of innocence}

You sir, are a dirty old man. The nicest dirty old man I know, but a dirty old man nonetheless. That's why I luvs ya!
BTW, we went to Fredericks of Hollywood right after we bought the boots.
BUT just let me say that no matter what one's age,
if it makes ya happy, to H--- with anyone who doesn't like what ya wear! Cause it's YOUR life!

So there.

That's pretty much my take on it. I'm dressing for ME. If I like how I look, if I feel like I have style, then that reflects in my attitude. I get more compliments when I dress MY way than I do when I dress according to someone else's standards. That tells me something.

I have to admit, I was looking at the same ones and decided that I'd never wear them....I would love to, but I'm in yoga pants all the time and they just don't work

Yeah, I imagine that all the buckles would get snagged on your pants n' stuff. That's too bad...but I'm stoked (and not surprised) that you were looking at them too!

As far as weight goes, as long as the clothing fits and isnt too revealing for the situation it's worn in, (for instance, no one of any age or weight should be wearing a pair of daisy dukes and a bikini top into a family style, sit-down restaurant unless it's located beachside, but I'll be the first to admit that this is just my personal taste being expressed here, the men reading this would most certainly disagree! ) who cares?

I agree that there are situations where certain clothes aren't appropriate, but I also think that as long as something fits you then it's all good. The one thing i really don't like seeing is a size 24W woman squeezed into a size 12 pair of shorts that are waaaay to short and waaaaaay to small. It doesn't have to be shorts, of course, anything that's too small is a fashion faux pas as far as I'm concerned.

LoL, I got Simon one from T-Shirt hell

Hehehe...Dave got one today that he first saw on T Shirt Hell...it says 'Bob's Taxidermy - proudly stuffing beaver for 30 years'. He thinks I'm the heat for letting him wear it, and I think it's hilarious...so it's a win-win situation. Now, if I could just get him to feel that way about the boots...

Wow, great boots. I tell you, if I saw a woman walking down the street with these on, I'd look at her, regardless of her age or size, as being a sexy woman who knows what she likes. My wife would love them and I gotta say, for $22 these are a huge bargain. There is no way I'd find something as good as those for the same price here in Australia.

I'm of the opinion that if it fits and you like it, be damned what anyone else might think. Well done.

That's the way I feel, too.  Some of the sexist people I know don't look like models.  However, they all feel good with what they look like (even if they are large) and don't care what other people think.

That is why he is our fearless leader!

Go D....I agree with wearing what you like.

I went through a period of time where I got up every morning and said, Hey I am in my 30's now, I need to start dressing like it. So I wore dress pants with nice blouses and hose socks...ya know socks that look like pantyhose and pumps? hehe

I was always dressed and felt ultra confident in my middle aged 30 something clothes. But the truth is, I'm not a clothes hound. I just never got into it and actually wear things until they fall apart.

I am a jeans and sweat shirt type person. And while I looked good and age appropriate in my clothes, I am a physical person and found they were pretty limiting. I couldn't just run out and throw the football with my son, I had to change. I couldn't really cook, flour flying, until I changed. I couldn't throw my youngest in his stroller and head out for an aggressive sweat building walk, I had to change.

So I am back to myself. Not to say I don't dress up when I need too, but I am most comfortable in Levi's and a sweat shirt or sweater. I did however forgo my Nikes several years back and now I wear slip on comfy shoes.

My girl friend from Italy and I mean she JUST came here to live, wants to know why American women dress like boys. She says "In Italy the women dress to be sexy, not comfortable. They are perhaps more feminine than American women?"

When we go out and someone is dressed in a not feminine way, she just stares at them as if trying to understand what is wrong with them!

But she must be getting used to it because she doesn't say anything about my jeans anymore. She used to say, "Oh, you change? You change before dinner right?"

Buwhahahaha.

Sorry, anyway, cool boots.
