I'm going to try something different for my next scarf project. I'm going to try an illusion scarf. This illusion scarf, to be exact:
The illusion isn't created by different colors, it's created by different stitches. The 2 row pink and white stripes don't change, but the stitches in the rows do. Instead of knitting, you purl. Instead of purling, you knit. So, the image that you're creating is subtler than if you used colors to create it.
I'm making it for Shea, and if it turns out okay, I'm going to make her a hat to match. If the boys like it, I'll make them ones in different colors (don't think they'll dig pink and white).
I'm also working on another moebius scarf. The first is completed - all I need to do now is wash and block it, then it's going to go in the mail to it's new home. The second one, the red one, is halfway completed. It's my no-brainer piece; it's all knit stitches and because it's on circular needles it just goes around and around and around - making it very easy to work on. Actually I took it with me today when I went to the doctor with Dave (his appointment, not mine). It attracted some attention - one lady and her daughter asked me what I was working on whilst we were standing in line at the pharmacy, and another lady - who had Down's Syndrome - sat and watched me knit for a good half an hour. She never asked what I was working on, and I never said anything to her either. When we made eye contact we smiled at each other....and then she dropped her gaze back to my fingers again. I carried on knitting, and she carried on watching. It was very cool in a simple sort of way.
I've heard that there's a store in town that sells hand beaded jewellery that also takes other hand made articles. I'm going to try and go down there next week with a few of the scarves and hats that I've made and see if that's the case...and if it IS the case, if they're interested in having any of my work in their store. I'm also going to put a couple of moebius' up for sale on eBay, just to see what reaction they get. I'm not going to be too disappointed if they don't generate a lot of interest; I know that the people I'm making them for will do a good 'word of mouth' publicity job for me and I'll get a couple of sales from them. I'm not looking to make a ton of cash from this...besides, I can only knit so fast, and I already have gift projects for other JU'ers backed up!
Okay, I'm going to go cast on for this illusion scarf now.....then I'm taking my tired fingers to bed.
