I'm making a mobeius scarf for my friend Jim.

The mobieus is a scarf that's knitted in the round on circular needles so there's no seam....but it's knitted in such a way that there's the traditional half twist to it:

It's really very cool to watch people try and figure out how I can manage to knit a tube with a twist in it.  They usually try and find the seam line where I sewed the two ends together.

There isn't one.  The first 150 stitches are cast on to a circular needle, then another 150 stitches are picked up in the bottom of the cast on stitches...and when those are joined together in the first knitted round the half-twist is created.     From then on you just knit around and around and around, like you're knitting a coil.   I knit my umbilical cord hats (baby beanies) in the round too - except those are created on double pointed needles.  some principal, knitting in the round...just done on 4 double ended needles instead of one circular needle.

The mobieus is a bit of a bitch to get the hang of and the first 20 or so rows look like they're completely screwed up and ought to be ripped out and started anew....but perseverance makes it all come together and the end result is a very cool scarf.

Pictures will surely follow....

Wow...that's crazy, K. Ryan's mom tried to get me to do knitting...I don't know...my hands just can't connect with my head to do it. I'll stick with the embroidery for right now I guess. Even though it's a smaller needle, it just works better. *sighs*...the things a girl will do to be crafty...

Even though it's a smaller needle, it just works better. *

I can knit and I can embroider, I can needlepoint and cross stitch.....but I cannot crochet very well at all.  It's all about working what you're good at and minimizing what you're not.

I just happen to be able to knit, and I maximize that!

It looks very cool, erm, warm I mean. I like the color too.

I can needlepoint and cross stitch

How'd that cat cross-stitch I passed along come out so far?

Hey, if you ever come across a pattern for a snood, let me know,

I have a pattern for a cowl, which is kind of the same thing.  I'll go look for a snood one - if I find one I'll send you the pictures to see if that's what you're talking about.

And no, you won't buy the yarn.  Unless you want something incredibly expensive like alpaca, that is.

Now, you need to take up glass-blowing and make a Klein bottle yourself.

Hooray 4th dimensional geometry!

Wow, I'm so impressed.....and I really didn't understand any of knitting code that you tried to explain!

Can a two dimensional scarf keep a person as warm as a three dimenstional one? ;~D

Where are you?

Uhm.. Not much in the way of an introduction, but my husband has prompted me to do this as he won't himself.. I'm actually Bakerstreet's wife, and he brought this article of yours to my attention as I'm a big fan of Mobius strips.. And of course, I thought this was the coolest thing I've ever seen (I'm very sheltered). I've even included mobius strips in some of my pictures, http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/24266500/ and he mentioned that he might ask you about getting one of these. I can't knit. I used to be able to crochet a single line.
I was just curious what the odds would be of maybe getting one of these?
Apparently he was going to ask you, but over something in another series of conversations, was afraid he might have offended some parties and was no longer comfortable asking you about it. And I'm not sure I'm doing a good job asking you about it either.. I'm not as "eloquent" as my better half.
I might add.. I like your articles.
