I was at the BX looking for PC games earlier today, and I found the Gold Edition of The Dark Age Of Camelot for $4.97....and I thought that it was too good to be true, so I bought it. It's the original DAOC plus 'The Shrouded Isle' expansion pack.
I've read and heard some decent things about DAOC. I've been wanting to take the plunge and get into a MMORPG fir a while, but have always felt a little intimidated. I know some WOW players in real life, and, having listened to them talk felt that WOW was maybe a little out of my league as a total newcomer. DAOC, to my understanding, was/is a better place to start - and because it's based, in part, on actual Arthurian, Celtic and Norse folklore I feel more comfortable starting there because I'm familiar with the stories and legends. In fact, I've been checking out the races and classes and have a pretty good idea of what my character will be already. I like that I don't have to PvP if I don't want to...and given that the character that I want to create isn't much of a warrior, that concept is very attractive to me.
Does anyone else have any advice for me about DAOC? Is it worth the $15 a month to play (I'd probably end up paying every 3 months so it would be slightly less than that for me)? Is DAOC a good place for a MMORPG N00b to start?
Thanks in advance for your input and advice!
