Our cat likes to get into boxes.  And bags.

Every time, without fail, that there's a box in our home, she gets in it.  This morning my laptop bag got delivered, and no sooner had  I taken the bag and the packing out of the box, she was in it.

She's not picky about her boxes either.  She's just as happy with a shoe box as she is with the box the TX came in.  She even got into an empty 12 pack soda box last week.  It was a tight squeeze, and I don't know how she managed to turn around inside the box, but get in there she did and she spent an afternoon happily purring away in her new Mountain Dew abode.

Sometimes she makes do with a bag instead.  She's not too fond of the plastic bags we get at WalMart, I think that they make too much noise and aren't structured enough for her tastes.  The brown paper bags from the commissary though.....she loves those.  We spent half an hour looking for her once, wandering around the house and the yard, calling her. We thought she'd got out and had run off until we went to unpack what we thought was a left over grocery bag on top of the washer.  Polly was in it, sleeping.

We play with her in the boixes and bags too...tapping our fingers along the sides when she's in them, giggling at her 'attack cat' moves when she swats at our hands.  Her eyes get really wide, pupils eclipsing the irises as she watches us, waiting for the perfect time to strike.

We don't spend money on cat toys in our house.  Our cat isn't high maintenance.  All we have to do to entertain her (and ourselves) is provide her with a box or a brown paper bag, and she's happy.

We show our love with boxes and bags.

IN that, they are a lot like children.

Cats are so cool. I love the way they can cuddle up to you one minute and then not know you the next!!

Really they should rule the world.

HEHE

Ours is very lovey at 5am when she thinks we should all be getting our of bed and feeding her breakfast.  She doesn't want to know is in the middle of the day, however.

I used to always marvel at my kids playing with boxes.  They played with the boxes longer than the toys that came in them sometimes.

We would wrap several empty boxes up in paper for each of the kids on their first Christmas. They were the biggest hits of the day.

On topic - our cat is a prissy little thing. Until a shoelace comes out, then she turns into the world's biggest kitten. Absolutely funny to watch, sometimes.

We should have!  That was all they played with!

Mine too. However, mine also like refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dryers, underneath furniture, microwave ovens, closets, cabinets, drawers, sinks, bathtubs, dishwashers, attics, rain sewers, tool chests, duffel bags, suitcases, guitar cases, accordian cases (don't ask), trunks (automotive or otherwise) and engine bays. (and just try getting motor oil out of fur, the sneaky bastards)

It's gotten so I'm careful before I close or start anything in my house. Oh yes, and one of them is obsessed with sleeping on my pants.

I hope you are talking cats, not kids!

Ooh, good idea!

That's weird. It must be your smell....

Polly has to be touching someone when she sleeps on our bed at night. She usually reaches out a paw and lays it on my leg or the back of my hand...if I'm not around and Dave's being grumpy, she'll wait til he's snoozing, then curl up beside him and go to sleep.

He also likes towels. I told Euripides you thought he was weird, and he chirped and rubbed the side of his face on my hand before walking across the keyboard. I think you upset him. Poor Yippie. (his nickname)

Fuzzy is obsessed with plastic bags. I wish I knew why. He scrunches them, he explorers them, he sits in them, he even gnaws on them.

?????

The only thing he does with boxes is claw them.

No. Did ju?

They do.

Sometime between 3 and 4 every morning -- every morning -- I deal with crazy kitty. I keep trying to change his pattern to no avail. That's why I'm usually on JU in the morning.

Hmm. Maybe there's something about them that triggers his nursing reflex? We had a cat that did that once. Radar O'Reily (he had big ears) used to make biscuits on this velour pillow we had, drooling and chirping whilst he did it...sometimes he's look over at us as if to say 'please help me, I can't seem to stop this!' He'd sometimes actually suck on the pillow too.....we summised that it reminded him of his momma when he was still a nursing kitten. Poor Radar got hit by a car. I cried.

She does the EXACT same thing. Every. Freakin'. Day. 5 am rolls around, and she starts chirping, then meowing, then howling. If she can get into one of the bedrooms, she will, and she'll pat at the face of whoever's in there and then howl in their ears until somebody gets up and feeds her. If the doors are shut, she'll scratch at them and drive us insane with that.

We've tried leaving out food overnight for her, thinking that would work. We went to bed with high hopes......only to have them shattered at 5am when the howling began.

Seeing as we've got a collection of cat owners here, I have a question to ask: Polly will sit in the window, spotting birds and squirrels, and when she sees them she's got this specific meow that she does....it sounds like her teeth are chattering as she's meowing. She only does it when she's got critters in her sight, never at any other time. Does anyone elses cat do that, or it it just mine being freaky?

Sure, that, short chirpy meows (mye mye mye mye mye mye mye mye!!!), or brrrrrrrow? brrrrrrow?

Our cat Lilo does the same thing with boxes, bags, you name it. Actually fitting in it is not even a requirement! As long as she can get a limb or two in it, she's happy. The cutest thing is when she tries to climb in an empty "fridge pack" package of pop, but only realizes after she gets her front in that her legs are sticking out the back and she cannot fit in or get out! We then like to teach her a little lesson by flipping over the box so she is doing a handstand just about, although she never seems to learn this lesson.

She is also one of those cats who has to be all over you in bed. She usually spends the night climbing back and forth between my husband and myself, taking no notice of how hard she presses her paws into our sleeping bodies...needless to say we generally wake up a few times a night due to this. As my dad always said, "That's why God made cats so cute; so you wouldn't kill them". Lol! Just kidding, we're total pushovers when it comes to her.....she is like our baby. Spoiled cat.
