New Orleans has had it's worst fears recognised this morning.

The additional rainfall from Hurricane Rita has breached the patched-up levees.  A 30' wide torrent of water is pouring over the levee and flooding New Orleans streets.

You know, if I believed in the Christian version of god, I'd be tempted to believe that those who said that Katrina's devastation of N.O. was god's wrath because of it's lack of morals and loose lifestyle might actually be on to something.....

Meh...the same thing happens in Las Vegas, LA, NY, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, St. Louis. It doesn't matter where you live, the "loose" lifestyle is in demand, you know? I don't know if God's into "wrath" anymore. I think it's more like your personal lifestyle and behavior have consequences, and they can be positive or negative.

I feel bad for New Orleans-ites, because they definitely don't need another set back. I think the city is a total loss at this point anyway...I can't imagine the nastiness from water that's polluted with petrochemicals, feces, and just muck that's sat in some of these houses for weeks now. I think they should dry it out, burn it, and start all over again if that's what they want.

all of which are notorious centers of depravity (although a verbal invite to an orgy sounds a lot more wholesome when delivered by a native of minneapolis or milwaukee).

I don't think God is taking out His wrath on New Orleans for being well, NEW ORLEANS. I think HE is however allowing this to happen and wants us to ask ourselves why?

What is it in the National Arena lately that could (possibly) make God need to bring our attention back into focus?

Tragedy happens whether you believe in God or not. But I wouldn't be moving back to New Orleans if I were a prior citizen! No time no how sister!

This morning I saw our city is taking in Katrina refugees. Given that they fled NO to get away from Katrina only to be retargeted by Rita in Texas, I'm beginning to wonder if maybe we should pass them on to someone else. Somebody in that lot must be jinxed.

That statement was kind of tongue in cheek, Marcie.  I wasn't being serious.....

I'm very well aware of the negativity that come with a 'loose' lifestyle.  Every action, every move we make has Karmic consequences.  We've abused this planet for years, and one of the consquences of that abuse is global warming....which in turn makes conditions favorable for hurricanes.  Everything's connected in a way....

Oh yeah.  You should see what goes on around here....it'd make Caligula blush.

I don't think so.  I don't think that everything is sent by god or that god allows/doesn't allow things to happen.  These hurricanes happen more frequently these days because we've abused the planet and heated ourselves up, making conditions more favorable for bigger, stronger, more frequent hurricanes.  There IS a cause of all this.....but I don't think it's god's wrath.

Hehe...they're going to become pariahs, Baker.  Nobody will want them....hurricanes and trouble follow them around like a bad smell!

Oh yeah.....Im actually tempted to go to one of the Baptist churches off base to see what they make of all this.

It's okay, I know that you've been trying to get settled into teaching and stuff.  I've been pretty busy myself.....

Hey Karen, they aren't breeched. They are just being over run.

That's not what MSNBC said yesterday, but okay.  Either way, NO's flooded again.

I know that was what they're saying. But listen to what the Army Corp of Engineers are saying.

Browning, who described Friday's levee flooding as "overtops" rather than breaches, said that height -- 7 to 8 feet -- and early arrival of the storm's surge were a surprise.
