I'm going back to work at legal tomorrow.
Because it's an attorney's office there's a dress code. I can't just show up in jeans; I usually wear a suit or dress pants and a co-ordinating shirt. Even on 'dress down friday' I wear pressed khakis and a collared shirt.
There's not much room for rebellion with this dress code, but I think I may have found a way to express my individuality.
With these:
I can't wear hign heels anymore. They throw my spine into a position that, since I've had the fusion done, I find pretty damn painful. So, I've been looking for some comfortable but cool flats. All I've found thus far are dorky looking shoes that look like the orthopedic shoes you have to wear if you've got one leg longer than the other. I've found tons of pointy-toes flats but experience tells me that my toes will be screaming to be released by the end of the day in those things. None of the shoes I've found until this morning have really floated my boat, so to speak.
Then I found those babies. They're flat, they're comfortable, and I think they're cool as hell. They'll go with all of my black suits and pants, and they'll work equally well with jeans and khakis. I'm thinking that I could even wear them with a long black shirt that I have hanging in the closet.
It did cross my mind that perhaps I'm too old to be wearing shoes like that. For perhaps a couple of seconds I had doubts about whether I should get them.....then my inner rebel stepped up and said "age be damned. Do you like them? Will you wear them? Then you should buy them." So, I did.
For the first time in my 36 years, I own a pair of funky flame shoes.
You're never too old to rebel. Ever.
