After years of working hard to reduce our debt, Dave and I are finally back into 'decent credit' land again.  We've paid off and closed loans and charge accounts, and have a fair chunk of his paycheck left after the bills are paid and food is bought.

So, we've decided to do something for ourselves.

We're buying a Harley.

We went and looked at the dealership last week, and we found the one that we want.  We're getting a Sportster - Dave's not a big dude, and a Sportster with a custom seat and a sissy bar on the back is the perfect size for me and him both.

He's going to apply to get his motorcycle license and take the safety class this week (he has to have the class in order to get it registered on base) and then we're going back to the dealership to talk about taking a scooter home with us.

I'm so excited I can hardly stand it!

I'm so jealous I could spit.

Aww, chickie!  I know how much you miss being on a bike.

The other reason we're getting a sportster is so that when he's deployed I can ride it.  Anything else (soft-tail dynaglide) is just too big for me to handle, but a sportster is fine.

Given the price of Gas, I figured you wanted to STAY out of debt and that is why you are getting a Bike!

Please don't call a motorcycle a scooter.

That's another reason. We can get 60 to a gallon on a sportster.

why not?

why not?

If you don't know the difference, you don't deserve to have one.

I'm not a big fan of Harleys, but when someone who is reads that, look out.

Excuse me?  I 'don't deserve to have one'????  Who the fuck are you to tell me what I do and do not deserve??

Just because I called a bike a 'scooter' you get your knickers in a twist.

Then stfu and bugger off somewhere else.

For your information, I lived in South Dakota for 9 years, 15 miles away from the annual Sturis Rally.  i've called bikes 'scooters' in the company of Bandido's, i've called them scooters in the company of drunk bikers and I've never had a problem.

So stick that in yer pipe and smoke it.

Ok, so you DO know the difference.

Dharma that is Awesome!

Don't let anyone give you a hard time bout a sporty, they are great bikes, especially the new XLC models with the bigger tank and rubber mounted engine.
In fact my next two project bikes will be based on the Sporty/Buell engine........

Içonoçlast,

I build an service mostly Harley and other American bikes and it is normall for them to be refered to as "Scoots" and "Scooters" especially by the older generation of bikers that are now in their 50's and 60's. So, go somewhere else with your unfounded inflamatory remarks, I doubt any Real bike rider is going to support your thoughts no matter brand is on their engine case.

Believe it or not, once you get on a bike the size of a Harley, the weight difference between a Sportster and a slightly larger model isn't going to matter much.

Thanks for the advice, LW!

That's what we're getting...a brand new sportster. We've earned it...actually HE earned it. I promised him when he made rank he could get a motorcycle - he tacked on another stripe at the start of this year so we're slightly overdue!

Lw,
Your right, however I wouldn't send Dharma out on a Road Glide as part of the deal is being able to pick it up if you do lay it over...... A Dyna or Softail would probably be fine.........

Teasing of sportster owner starts AFTER they are in the fold, no reason to tease before they are in it could discorage them..... And we don't want that

And yes I know quite well about the Sporty owners leaving the big twins in the dust.....
