My daschshund is having what my mum would call 'a funny half-hour'.

He's running a circle around the coffee table at top speed...ears flapping, toungue hanging out, little stumpy legs pumping away.  He's occasionally breaking his circuit to bounce off the loveseat, ears flying out like wings as he launches himself towardds the floor again.

The cat's slunk under the coffee table and is reaching out every so often to swat at him, which just sends him further into this frenzy he's got himself into.

I'm sitting here trying not to laugh as I watch him.....he does this every so often, and I always find it hilarious for some reason.  He wears himself out after a couple of minutes and will go flop down on his blanket, totally spent.  He's never mean when he does this, and if I tell him to cut it out, he will.....he just has this kniption fit every once in a while.

Must be a dog thing.

We had a sheltie and a border collie that did the same thing! Usually, they did it when they seemed to get so excited they couldn't contain their doggy emotions.

Yes, it's hilarious.

I love daschunds. I am jealous.

Thanks for the day brightener!  Your words are worth a thousand pictures as a picture would not do it justice!

Ah. I remember those times. We had a dachshund growing up that did the exact same thing. Inexplicably, a couple times a week (when younger) to once or twice a month (when older), he would just start going in circles - living room to the dining room to the kitchen and then back into the livingroom. Once he'd done this for a time, he'd crash on the floor next to the couch and we'd not hear or see him for a couple hours. Sometimes, he would flop down next to us on the couch with this totally self-satisfied look on his face as if to say "Gee, that was fun!"

Gotta love dachshunds. Loveable little hounds that aren't afraid to have a little fun (even if they look silly doing it).

Wait 'til you see him try and run down a snow covered hill that's got more than 6" of snow on it. They love doing that, but it's hilarious to watch. I think I've still got photos of our dachshund doing just that. *wanders off looking for the photo album.*

Henry does that sometimes as well.  Runs a circle from the living room, down the hallway, through the dining room/kitchen, and back into the living room again.

heheh...weiners in snow are always funny to see!

No picture I could ever take would adequately describe just how funny it is to watch him go nuts the way he does.  he's doing it again now, actually....I can hear his little claws scaping across the carpet as he tries to get some traction!

Usually, they did it when they seemed to get so excited they couldn't contain their doggy emotions.

I think that's why he's doing it...the cat gets him worked up and he has to get rid of the energy1

hehe...it's even funnier when there is more than one doing that at the same time.  LOL  When mine were young, all three would chase each other around like that all over the house.  The biggest one would get tired the quickest and then sit in one spot and bark at the other two as they ran past him.

Running dachshunds are funny no matter what they are running to.  Their feet seem to work independently of each other.
