Knitting. Yarn. Fiber artistry. More knitting. Nursing school. Hospice work. Death and the dying process. Phoenix Raven's. Knitting. Yarn. Oh, and Life As An Air Force Wife.

That's what the surgeon said to me this morning when he examined my incison.

I'm pretty happy with it too.  It's flattening out nicely.  I think that I'm going to get it tattooed....he said for me to give it 6 months to settle down, which I was going to do anyway - and I don't know of a tattoo artist who would agree to ink a scar less than that old anyway.

I've found some designs of tribal dragons that I think would look awesome along the length of my scar.

So far, this is my favorite:

I'm thinking that if I got my belly-button repierced I could have it's foot looking like it was holding the bead/gem on my belly button hoop.

I like this one too:

I like this one too, but it's a little more solid than I'm comfortable with.  I'm afraid that after a few years it's going to look like a big black blob:

Same thing with this one:

I really like the body shape on that one, so perhaps I can incorporate a slimmer line design with a shape like that one.

I'm really pretty happy with my scar.  It's long, yes, but it's skinny and it's not raised up or saggy.  My belly is almost as flat as it was prior to surgery.

Besides, this scar is a small price to pay for being pain-free and the ability to walk.

Ah, I see a snake motif here.  As in a Ga'ould!

I would go with the last one as it has spunk!

I already have a snake on my upper right arm...a snake of sorts, anyway, it's an oroborous. http://pudenda.net/oroborus.html

I had wanted to get a phoenix but decided that too may folks would think it was a chicken or a peacock, so decided on a dragon instead.

It's funny you should say you prefer the last one; the more I look at it the more I like it. That particular one symbolizes strength, apparently.

I think that's pretty damn fitting to have over that particular scar.

I almost got a dragon tattoo a while back. I like the skinny black dragons a lot. Very cool.

The last one has more "pop," but the second one appeals to me more. I really like the idea of layering a tattoo over your scar, and the belly button rings they make now are so cool (I was cursed with a belly button that should never see the light of day, and yet several years ago my parents convinced me to get it pierced. WHY?) I think it's a great idea, dharma.

A good place for pretty much all types of body jewelry is Freak Rings. They have an amazing selection, and the prices are very good (I can get tongue rings for $6 - $10). And if you shop with them often, they'll regularly send you email discounts for 10% off.

Dont you hate it when people dont know the difference between dinner and mythology!  I think the Phoenix would have been a fantastic idea!

Now I have to go check what an or.......that thing you said is.

I like it too, and I found an even cooler dragon earlier...skinny, and with wings that would come up and flank each side of my belly button. I can't copy and paste it as it's a copyrighted design....but I'm thinking that I'm going to spend $10 and buy the flash because I'm going to end up getting it inked onto my scar anyway.

Yes! people look at my oroborous and say "oh, what a nice snake!" all the damn time and it pisses me off because it's not a snake, it's a serpent...more specifically an oroborous. I have another infinity tattoo on my other shoulder and one person asked me why I "had my figure eight sideways and not standing up like it's s'posed to be".
GRRR!

Ahh, Dharma! Don't ink up that purrrfect flat belly!
Damn!

I really like the last couple, but I can't see that cool red lasting w/o fading, even on the belly where it'd get less sun.

P.S. As thin as you are, you're crazy if you think you're ever going to gain enough weight to turn that into a blob unless you got pregnant again. The first one's nice though.

P.P.S. Sent that pattern to ya, sorry about the huge memory, had to scan it as photos rather than text.

I really like the top one. And the belly button ring idea is cool.

I emailed you btw.

How synchronistic... I've been looking and gathering dragon pictures for the last few months, preparatory to me deciding which design I will use for my next tattoo. I really do like the first one and the last one, but all have their merits. I like the red highlights in number 4 as well. I don't mind the heavy black and considering I'm going for a cover-up, the heavier the better, I guess (I have a tattoo on my upper right arm that was my first and is not very good; hence the need for a cover-up)

Thanks for posting the pics, Dharma. You've given me some more designs to think about.

Cheers,

very cool to hear you are healing so well D,

Thanks!

Don't ink up that purrrfect flat belly!

Shovel babe, it's not perfect anymore.  It's got a big ol' fuck off scar running down the middle of it....so I'm just going to embellish that scar and reclaim my belly by tattooing it.

As thin as you are, you're crazy if you think you're ever going to gain enough weight to turn that into a blob unless you got pregnant again

Can't have no more babies.  Don't have the equipment...got no place to carry them.

Remember to post a finished shot in 6 months!

I will!

I really like the top one. And the belly button ring idea is cool.

Thanks...and I'm going to go check email now.

Welcome, and I want to see the finished product...

a figure 8 on its side is called a "lemnicus."

Ezcellent!  Thanks, I had been wondering if there was a name for it..
