All natural for me, baby!

Until now, I've always knitted on aluminum or plastic needles.  They're okay...annoyingly loud sometimes and you have to be a bit careful with the tips or you'll split your yarn, but they got the job done.

This weekend I bought my first pair of bamboo needles.  They're a LOT more expensive - I can get a pair of aluminums for $3; the bamboo ones I just got were $8 - but boy are they ever worth it.

They're lighter, they're quiter and they're a literal joy to hold.  Deliciously smooth....and they have a tip that doesn't split yarn easily.  I think that you'd really have to work to split yarn with these babies.

So, over the next few weeks I'm going to be spending part of my allowance on replacing my old needles with bamboo ones.  If I can help it, I'm never going to buy another pair of artifical needles again.

Anyone want some used knitting needles when I'm done replacing mine?

Aaaaaaaaah! It was a self-professed "yarn snob" that taught me to knit, and she's just as particular about her needles. I only own bamboo needles (and do most of my work on circs cuz I'm so awkward with straights and keep dropping them). I've used aluminum and plastic a few times, in a pinch... but definitely prefer the bamboo. Happy knitting!

Thanks for the e-mail!

Ooh, I jealous!

Did you like the hats?  I tried out the second one, and whilst it's not as hard as it looks in theory it's still not the kind of thing you can pick up and put down when you feel like it.

OOh, I just got 'stitch and bitch nation' today and it has another cabled hat pattern in it...this one has cables all the way around.  I'll try and transcribe it later this week and send it to you...

I completely understand your needle thing. I do leather work and forever I have used standard 2-Prong Lacing Needles thinking that they were just fine because I could get 10 of them for a buck or so and when they wore out if wasn't a big deal to get some more. Then I bought a Brass Perm-a-Lock needle because it was on sale. I now have a full set of them and will never go back they just work so much easier! And they don't wear out if you treat them right. so even at $2 a piece I'lll get them.

so I guess You could call me a Needle Snob too?

What about Ivory or Whale Bone; wouldn't they be the smoothest and quietest?
