I finished Little Whip's wolf scarf yesterday.  All I have to is it attach it's 'teeth' and embroider it's snout on and it'll be ready to mail off to her.

It was surprisingly quick to knit up.  I started it Saturday evening, had the tail finished Saturday night before I went to bed, and finished the rest of it Sunday afternoon.  It's very soft and supple...I'm really very happy with the results (I hope that LW feels the same way!).

This afternoon I made a start on a fox one for my daughter, and I also dug out some green yarn to create an iguana one for our Jake.  The fox one is going to be the same basic pattern as the wolf, but I'm going to tweak the pattern a bit for the iguana and make his tail not quite so fat.  It's just a matter of spacing the increase stitches out over a few more rows, and that's really very simple.

When I was at the store yesterday afternoon I caught sight of some new scarves and hats that they just got in.  I was shocked not so much at the price, but at the quality...they were really poorly made and finished.  I can come up with something MUCH nicer for less than what these ones were priced at, and all of my designs are unique.  You're not going to be able to find something like the ones I make in the BX or Wally World, nor are you going to see anyone else wearing the exact same hat or scarf as you like you would if you got a scarf from 'The Crap' or 'Adenoid-y and Felch'. Now if I could just sell other people on that idea, I might be able to make some money from this hobby of mine! (LOL)

After I'm done with this fox and lizard, I'm going to tackle this:

I'm also going to create this little beauty to co-ordinate with the hat:

I like to have a bigger, no-brainer project on the go, so over the weekend I went and got the yarn to make this:

I LOVE that sweater.  The bell sleeves, the way it's shaped at the waist....it's a big, comfy, girly sweater.  The yarn I got for it is a gorgeous milk chocolate color, slightly textured and soft as hell.  I'm actually looking forward to cooler weather so I can sport that baby out and about!  The pattern is, again, very simple.  It's the kind of thing that I can knit a few rows on, put it down,  come back to a few days later and be able to figure out where I'm at and what I need to do without counting rows and stitches and constantly referring to a pattern.  Like I said, it's a no-brainer.

Shea's fox scarf is calling me....so it's back to the needles I go.

I think if you wanted, you could really make some bucks by taking orders from us JoeUsers and setting up a paypal account! I'd buy! Let me know if you are up to taking orders anytime soon.....

Joey, I'm seriously thinking about doing it.  The thing is, I simply don't know where to start.  I know what I want to focus on -hats, scarves, bags..maybe gloves/mittens and socks, small items that I can turn out fairly quickly and can use a lot of artistic license on - but I simply don't know where to sell at and how to manage the finances.  I don't want to sell on eBay because I think that stuff would get lost amongst all the crap, and the flea markets around here aren't exactly the kind of places to sell the kind of thing I'm knitting.  I guess what I need to do is find a craft fair or something and start out there...but I really have no clue how to go about charging taxes, accepting credit cards etc..and then there's filing taxes at the end of the year.

Anyone got any suggestions as to where I should start?

If you do it online, you can accept Credit Cards using Paypal.com, Credit cards in person isn't an overly wise idea, it's costly and complicated, so until your buisness grows, credit cards just aren't worth it unless your doing it online, and even paypal charges for credit card usuage, I just can't remember how much right now. (paypal is free for pretty much everything else though).

for local taxes you should talk to someone in your local city office for information. they will be able to help you get the forms you need and tell you what the tax rate is, and how to report (etc.).

For you personal income taxes, this would be considered self employment income. Save recipts for the yarn and other supplies you use for makeing, packaging, transporting, shipping, etc. they are refundable on your year end taxes as long as you file for self employment. I don't think you need a buisness tax number unless you employ others.

Good luck, and I would love to get the pattern for those scarves so I can make them for my kids (I don't sell what I make, I just make stuff for fun). I'll pay ya a buck for it *PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE*

Oh crumbs, I just realized that those are knitting, and not crochet. I can't Knit to save my life, but I can crochet really well. I think I can convert patterns, I haven't actually tried though *pout*

My suggestion to save the money of setting up a merchant account (which is costly, but how you handle credit card transactions in "real life"), would be to instruct friends that credit card purchases must be done via the internet. If you ever grew to be a business of reasonable size, I'm not sure, but I'd suggest setting up a kiosk so that credit card transactions could be handled that way (I'd imagine that as long as you're not doing it to try to skirt paying your sales taxes it sould be OK, but I'd check with a few folks before trying this).

I love the scarf and the sweater too! I would definately place an order too! That hat in a kid size version for a little girl would be great too! As soon as you're ready we'll talk!

Here's an idea...I have a few friends a scarf like that can go to for the upcoming cold weather!
