Knitting. Yarn. Fiber artistry. More knitting. Nursing school. Hospice work. Death and the dying process. Phoenix Raven's. Knitting. Yarn. Oh, and Life As An Air Force Wife.

I'm always on the lookout for new and exciting knitting patterns.  I like hats and scarves; not only do they knit up quickly, but I can also use a fair amoung of 'artistic' license when I make them.

I've been wanting a cool scarf pattern all year, and I've just now found it:

Yes, it's a fox. A fur-friendly fox, and I think it's the coolest scarf I've been in ages.  Better still, the pattern is well within my skill range.  I'm knitting myself one as soon as I can!

Of course you can!  I cant get into town to get the yarn for it until next weekend, but once I do I'll get started on one for you!

That's stinking cool.

That's stinking cool.

That's what I said!  I saw it and immediately said that I HAD to have one.  I just have to.  I've worked out the cost, and it's not as much as I thought...so the nest time I go into town I'm buying yarn, hairclips to make his jaw open and close, black floss for his nose and little beads for his eyes.

(maybe you can find some wee fangs for him, too. If not, I can embroider some on there.)

I'll have a look at the store and see what they've got.  If I can find some of those fang shaped beads like you use for jewellery making I'll be stoked because those would look kick ass.

I'm coming up with variations on this theme....perhaps a grey variagted yarn would make one that looks like a wolf?

Youknow what, S...I just had a really good idea.  That fox has a hair clip inside his jaw so that he can 'bite' on his tail to keep him from falling off....if I used one of those hair clips that has teeth on them I could use a bit of craft paint or something to paint the outer two white so it looks like he's got fangs!

I'm so excited about knitting these foxes!  If I had my way, I'd be making D drive me to town to get supplies tonight....but he's got to work late.  We're going to a follow-up appointment with the surgeon on Thursday so I think I should be able to get all the yarn I need then.

I don't think I've been this stoked about a knitting project in quite some time......!!!

This is adorable! Way cool! Hahaha...I can picture Sabrina wearing her bad-ass one with fangs. I love it!

PS - Thanks for the getting-started info on your other article. I'm going to gather up what I need on payday.

OOh, you're really going to start knitting!??? YES!!!!!!!!!!!! That's way cool!!! I'll email you some patterns and links for beginners tomorrow...and you know, this fox isn't that difficult to make. You could even narrow his tail a bit, knit him in green...and have yourself a gecko or iguana hanging around your neck!

I'm looking forward to seeing what your first project will be!

Oh hell yeah, and the black/grey sounds perfect.

Cool...you'll have a wolfy one instead of a foxy.  hehehehe.....beware of sheep in wolf's clothing......

Aw, thanks! I'm excited about it, but don't have grand hopes for my skill, hehe.

It'll will be nice to waste time doing something useful rather than waste time slowly killing myself.

That's freaking awesome!

Thanks for the help, dharma. I appreciate it!

lw, you're gonna HAVE to post a pic when you get your scarf. You know this, right?

I remember when I was a kid in the sixties and an old lady I knew had a real one of those. Talk about freaky-deaky to a kid!Especially the eyes and the way they seemed to follow you!

Damn! thirty some odd years later and it's still giving me the willies...

Very cool, dharma. Hope you put a pic of the wolf one in here when you get done.

Hey, Shovel, you talking about the scarf or the old lady?

Do you know how to crochet? I'd really like to learn how to do that...have any ideas?

And if you find anything with a cow...

That's cool! I started knitting a year ago... focused mainly on sweaters cuz I got bored with scarves... but this... this is definitely doable. Love the coon skin cap too, Dharma!

Well, I sort of do.  I'd like to see you knit a scarf to completion....just so that you have something to show for your effort.

Thanks for the help, dharma. I appreciate it!

No problem; I'm very excited to have you start knitting!

Yes, you are.

I really don't like people wearing fur.  I'd much rather see a fox in it's natural glory than see it's skin hanging around someone's neck.

Hope you put a pic of the wolf one in here when you get done

I will!

Baa'aaH!

Hehe...that's you all over.  A wolven exterior with a harsh bark and scary looking bared teeth...but a gentle lamb on the inside.

And if you find anything with a cow...

If I do, I'll let you know.  In fact, I'll go look this afternoon...

I do, it goes much faster than knitting, too.

Try granny squares first...its an easy pattern to learn and you can make all sorts of things with them

This is very true.  I can crochet, but I knit better than I crochet.  Granny squares are pretty simple, and like S said, you can use them to kake a ton of stuff.  You can sew them together to make a blanket, a bag or even make a vest - I had a vest when I was a kid int he 70's that my granny made out of crochet granny squares.\

I started knitting a year ago... focused mainly on sweaters cuz I got bored with scarves

Scarves can be knitted in an afternoon so there's almost immediate gratification and satisfaction with them.  Sweaters take a little longer....I have some simple sewater patterns that I'm going to pass on to Tex; if you want to send me your email address I'll pass them on to you too!

Even my husband thinks that this is a cool scarf, and he usually doesn't get excited about the things I knit.

hmmmm.....knitting scares me. I'm really a klutz and to think of me with two sharp knitting needles......mmmmm. bad idea.
But GOOD LUCK to all those beginners!
