I'm watching 'Chicks that Rock' on VH1 with my 12 year old daughter.

There's some girl on there who's shirt is pretty low cut and tight....it looks like her boobs are canteloupe havles stuck on her chest and if she takes a deep breath they're going to come busting out of her top.

Shea looked at this for a couple of seconds and muttered "Man, she needs to put a shirt on or something".

I'm so proud of her for saying that.  She's such a straight arrow, is our Shea...she has a moral compass that just amazes me sometimes.  She has very clear ideas about what's right and what's wrong, and isn't afraid to speak up for herself.  This is the kid that dragged me around 5 or 6 stores last summer looking for a swimsuit that wouldn't "show too much".

In an age where teen and pre-teen girls are wearing skirts so short their butt cheeks hang out and 7 year olds are wearing knee high boots and talking about being 'hott', I'm glad that I have a kid who isn't easily influenced...

Go Shea! That's awesome! It's all about being a good example, K. I don't suspect you're one to do the "hussie" look, and your kids are watching you. If she's that passionate about modestly now, I don't suspect you'll have any problems later on either. I was the same way when I was her age...and I still am.

Hopefully your boys will know that young women who tend to dress provacatively probably aren't good choices, either.

Tell her Auntie Jill says "You go girl!"   I am totally disgusted by the stuff I see kids wearing.  We used to wear tight things but still everything was at least covered!

I really feel badly for a neighbor girl who I can relate too totally.  She is only 9yrs old but she is about 5' and already wears a woman's size 8 shoe.  Trying to find clothes in her size that are appropriate for a 9yr old is pretty close to impossible since they aren't appropriate for anyone at any age.  My mom used to tailor or make clothes for me.  You don't end up looking particularly "normal" that way though.

I really feel for girls who just want to look nice not like the skanks that the fashions seem to be targeting.

You tell 'em Shea!!!!

Where does she get that moral compass from... it surely isn't the parents! ;~D

Way to have a rockin' daughter with a mind of her own!

When I was in Wal-Mart a week ago, they had baby-bibs that had tart sayings on them and were called "Baby Tease" or something like that. Talk about inappropriate, and being sold by an organization that holds itself up as moral.

I can't imagine the phrase "Baby Tease" coming from anyplace less vile than NAMBLA. I guess that's where this pathetic society is.

It goes to show you that some great parenting is going on. It sounds like your daughter has her head on straight.

Just a thought Dharma... You now need to instill three more words on your daughter's psyche...

HOLD THAT THOUGHT!

I hope not. I have a feeling that she's going to be more of a hippie chickie than a T&A girl....and like I said, she's not easily influenced.  She said something last night about preferring to have a few friends who she knew were friends  than try to be something she's not to get attention. She's a kick ass kid, and I'm proud of her..

I did, and she said thanks!  Im disgusted too....I see little girls (and by that I mean 13 and 14 year olds) buying skirts so short that you can see their unerwear when they walk.  I used to wear some short skirts when I was that age, and you might have been able to see my kinickers if i bent over without thinking..but this is way worse.  I sometimes woner why they even bother wearing these skirts; they dont serve much purpose.

Where does she get that moral compass from... it surely isn't the parents! ;~

I have often wondered about the same thing myself!!

Way to have a rockin' daughter with a mind of her own!

Thanks, and Shea says thanks too!

That's truly disgusting.  In an age where pedophilia is rampant (and that's not an exaggeration, read your newspaper or watch TV sometime; it's everywhere) people should really know better than to manufacture or purchase things like that.  I can take a joke, but that's not funny.

As for NAMBLA....I'm not very often angered to the point of wanting or wishing to do violence,but....those fuckers bring me to that point.

It goes to show you that some great parenting is going on. It sounds like your daughter has her head on straight

I don't know about the parenting.  I dont think of myself as a great parent in the traditional sense.  We don't all eat dinner together every night of the week, we don't do traditional family things...we're just not a traditional family, I guess.

But yes, I think that Shea has her head on straight.  She has a plan for her life....she wants to be a veterinarian, and has figured out what she needs to do to make that happen.  She wants to join the military and be a vet tech, then continue college until she qualifies.

You now need to instill three more words on your daughter's psyche...

HOLD THAT THOUGHT!

Hehe....I'll see how that goes over!

Hearing things like that gives me hope that society isn't totally held together by the "stuff" that we see on t.v. Congrats on raising such a bright and independent child.

Aww, that's awesome. Sounds like you're trainin' her right.

Good on her!

I get really disappointed with little girls that think they're 20 and that the model to follow are the girls in video clips! So totally wrong.

When i was her age i thought like Shea. And other girls were like oh but you have the perfect body for this kind of clothes, and i'd say: you kidding? I'm gonna catch a flu wearing that!!! hehe. They used to get so upset, lol! I didnt even care about guys at 13!

Anyway, good on ya Shea, this is how you start earning some respect
