Hello, my name is Dharma and I'm a book-a-holic.

I am addicted to books.  I know that I'm addicted to books.  I can't leave a bookstore empty handed.  I can't even visit Amazon or Half dot com without placing an order for something.

I read constantly.  If I didn't leave the house to go to work, I'm sure that I'd be quite happy to spend all day reading.  I have learned how to cook and clean with a book in my hand and my eyes on the page.  I read over breakfast and lunch, I read over dinner and before bed.  I make sure I have my book in my briefcase before I leave for work in the morning.  I read at the doctor's office, I even read whilst I'm laying flat on my back in traction at the therapy clinic.

I read almost anything.  I'm not much of a literary snob - wait, I am.  I don't (won't, can't) read Danielle Steele or romances with Fabio-esque men on the cover.  But apart from that, I'll read just about anything.  If it has pages and a binding, I'm attracted to it.  My bookshelves are full; I need to purchase another one to accomodate the tomes I've accumulated.

I love thrift store and yard sales where I can buy books for a dime or a quarter apiece.  I love that Amazon has used books for sale, because it means I can get more bang for my buck (so to speak).  I don't mind if the pages of the books are dog-eared or highlighted, that just means that someone else has gained enjoyment from the story or information held within. I don't even mind if the cover is tatty as long as the pages are all there.

Yes, I am a book-a-holic.  Are you?

Borders has a 'buy 2, get one free' sale on right now...I went on Saturday, and I'm going again tomorrow!

Welcome, Guy. What are you reading at the moment?

There's this wonderful invention called "the library" Karen! It's alot cheaper than buying bookshelves and books.

I'm a bookaholic, too, but I won't buy a new book unless it's something that I think I'll absolutely love. I found "Living History" by Hillary Rodham Clinton on sale at BN a few weeks ago and I've been slowly picking through that...if you haven't read it already you'd probably like it...

I like kids books, too. I read lots of that...the Princess Diaries books by Meg Cabot are really cute, and I love Judy Blume, as silly as that sounds. I'm really into "Junie B. Jones" at the moment...my kids sit on the floor in front of me for twenty minutes each afternoon as I read "Junie" to them and they beg and beg for me to read more chapters...by Barbara Park....they're hilarious...a trip inside the Kindergarten psyche...

Happy Reading...and...books are something *EVERYONE* should be addicted to! You don't need a support group.

What are those about?

But they never have what i want, marcie, and then I have to return them....I like having shelevs of books that I can go back to if I want to re-read.  I like opening them and feeling their pages...I like the smell of a new book.  I alos like that we have literature in our house so that the kids can grab whatevere they feel like reading and get into it without having to worry about returning it....

I'm really into "Junie B. Jones" at the moment...

We like her too.  Jake's really into 'Super Diaper Baby'...gross title and gross plots, but he will sit and read it...and for Jake that's really quite something.

Happy Reading...and...books are something *EVERYONE* should be addicted to!

Amen to that, sister!

Dharma, in describing yourself, you have also described my darling wife. She and I both love books, new or used, but she has a voracious appetite and will read anything, including trashy romance novels. I have a bigger appetite for music, so between us, we're building up quite a large library of both.

At the moment, I'm reading Simpson's World (a great book about the impact The Simpsons has had on modern culture), Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance (which I highly recommend) and my usual spiritual reading materials. I'm listening to Beck's new album (more brilliance from the diminutive musical munchkin), Sydney band Gelbison and Handsome Boy Modelling School.

I won't touch those, either. Those books are junk. I only read classic novels and modern short stories. The classic novels are timeless and excellent pieces of literature. The modern short stories offer a glimpse into our current values.

E-books just aren't the same. The screen starts to hurt your eyes, the print is too small, etc. Real books are the best way to read.

Total book a holic. I travel 3 hours a day currently - 90 minutes each way to work, so I get through a lot.

I like having shelevs of books that I can go back to if I want to re-read. I like opening them and feeling their pages...I like the smell of a new book. So know what you mean by this...

I read mostly (quality) fiction or else politics/history. No Mills and Boon for me

This topic hits home.... I'm such a book-oholic I took a job at our local library so I wouldn't have to spend so much money to get my latest fix.

Right now I'm re-reading 1984 by George Orwell. Most of the time I prefer the fantasy/ sci-fi stuff, but I won't pass down a good mystery or an interesting Stephen King. I just finished Digital Fortress by Dan Brown, and recently started Hearts in Atlantis by Stephen King. I have yet to get through the rest of Eragon. *Sigh*

My latest craze is digital books. I figured that I spend so much time in front of this computer that I might as well read a book while I'm online. I've got 2 on hold.

I love Half-Price Books. I can loose myself in a Barnes and Noble for hours.

Read on!

Peace,

Beebes

Me too. Here's a link

Cool! Thanks, Shovel!!

I'll read a lot, but I can't get into those....

At the moment, I'm reading Simpson's World (a great book about the impact The Simpsons has had on modern culture),

That counds like a really good read....

I only read classic novels and modern short stories.

That's pretty much what i enjoy....although I read almost anything, I don't enjoy all of it.

So know what you mean by this...

Oh, thank goodness! I was worried that people would start to think i was weird.....

read mostly (quality) fiction or else politics/history. No Mills and Boon for me

I just can't handle that 'she felt his thobbing member pushing against her as he whispered in her ear...' garbage. Utter crap, all of it.

It is very clever, incredibly funny and a must for any fan of The Simpsons. The book is called 'Planet Simpson' by Chris Turner and the ISBN is 0306813416. I intend writing a blog about is once I've finished.

Should we have a Bibliophiles support group on here? I could use one, but I don't think I'd go... I enjoy my books waaaaaay too much. I can't wait until I can go to the post office tomorrow becuase I should have two more books coming in from Amazon. My Barnes & Noble came in before I left on break.
