Michael Jackson was late for court today.

He was apparently dressing himself this morning when he felt a sharp pain in his back which rendered him immobile.  He was transported to the emergency room, and was reported by his attorney to be suffering from a "serious back problem" (it makes me wonder how serious it is, to be honest....).  He said that he thought that he's be given a muscle relaxant and then released (even though he was immobile, paralysed?  That doesn't make sense).  As it turns out, he was kept in the ER for tests.  Nothing wrong with that.....

....thing is, no-one from his entourage felt they needed to tell this to the judge before court started.  His Honor was a little miffed (and rightfully so).

The judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest and said that MJ had an hour to get there before the warrant went into effect and he revoked his bail and $3 million bond.

MJ showed up 65 mins later.  Five minutes past the hour deadline.

To me, a bystander, his actions (or lack thereof) signal a serious lackadasical attitude towards the whole proceeding.  He's going to be late, but he doesn't bother to notify anyone?  Just another sign that he's totally out of touch.

None of this bodes well on his behalf for the outcome of this trial.

It is interesting that his arrogance and disregard for the legal system will likely do him more damage than any witness for either side ever could.

I would wager it is another sign he is more than just out of touch. As an armchair diagnostician I would say he has some pretty serious mental illnesses. Almost to the point of being incapacitating, only he differs from most who suffer from the in that he has the fame and fortune to have others work him through it.

That he has body dysmorphic disorder is fairly obvious (the skin, the plastic surgery obsession). From this and other instances it also seems to me he has some other somatization disorder problems. I truly feel sorry for him, as I have long thought him to be quite talented in the realm of pop music. But he has a lot more problems in his life than just this trial.

Ooh...I wouldn't play around with a Judge like that. BAD IDEA! One time I saw a guy tell our District Judge to stick it, he wasn't payin' his ex wife shit on child support or cooperating in any shape or form. The judge ordered my boss, the Sheriff, to jail him until he called for him. He finally did call for him. A YEAR LATER! There was nothin' the guy or his lawyer could do about it either. My advice to MJ would be to get his ass there and do so on time!

I think I know how to solve the whole Michael Jackson issue and such. Skip the trial (which will be a circus anyways) and go direct to sentencing. Take into consideration that the trial has been skipped, and that he apparently doesn't live in the same world as the rest of us anyways, place him under house arrest at neverland (or whatever it is he calls his house) for the rest of his life. Then if someone wants to be crazy enough to visit him, well that's their problem.
And more on topic for your article, it sounds like contempt of court to me, but then again I wasn't there nor am I involved in the legal profession. But someone that knew he was in the hospital must have had a phone and been able to call the judge (or judges office at least). Oh well, like it was going to be a 'normal' case and not a circus...

That's it, you've found the smoking gun evidence!! You, of all people, know the only way to cause the only kind of "serious back problem" that would keep someone away from a very important court apperance! ;~D

Oooh, Ted, that was too funny.

I have long thought some pretty serious mental illnesses are at play, and to that extent, I feel some sort of sympathy for Michael Jackson, the man.

But Michael Jackson, the public persona, has played off his mental illness as "eccentricity", and has made his camp a bunch of "yes men" and women who will say what he wants to hear. He is not open to the possibility that he might be mentally ill, and, although he could well have received the best treatment possible years ago, continued on his path.

As one who has dealt with mental illness (and even have a criminal past for it), I will state out of my own experience that you cease being a "victim" the day you victimize others.

From what I have been hearing of the testimony, that is probably a very accurate assessment.

Oh, I agree 100%. I don't think that makes anything all right. I was just pointing out that I think there is a lot more at work than being out of touch.

The thing that annoyed me the most about this piece of "news" was that it was apparently the ONLY news worth reporting on over at CNN (and probably other news broadcasters) this morning. Most of the stations I have on the TV in my office are foreign (this being a language school, we discourage people from watching English language TV by not having many English language stations), but when I tuned to CNN this morning, I got an hour straight of live video from the courthouse and in depth analysis of how hard life will be on MJ's lawyer after this. Is this really worth the news dedication it got this morning?

We got updates every 20minutes.

The thing about House Arrest is it's not really much of a punishment for a reclusive man like MJ. He's got his toys, his pets, his children! At least if he's in jail his children are safe and not being dangled over hotel balconys or taken out to zoos with masks on their faces. Or worse at risk of becoming victims like the alleged.

How did they actually find jurors for this - it would be impossible to sequester (sp?) anyone because everyone knows who Michael Jackson is and knows of the allegations from 10 years ago.

Karen I have kinda a personal issue - I think - do you mind if I email you? Are you around now I'm going out in two hours. I can't blog about it - even privately in case Nick reads it - I don't want to worry him unnecessarily.

He shouldn't be arrogant. They are under no obligation to segregate the prat if they do arrest him on a bench warrant.

He decides to be late.
The judge has him arrested.
He goes to the "general admittance" county jail.
The inmates see who he is.
15 minutes later there's no need for a trial.

If I were Jackson I wouldn't tempt fate. Sure, his estate would sue the crap out of California, but that doesn't make him less dead...

do you mind if I email you?

I'm around, go ahead.  If you don't catch me tonight, email me anyway and I'll look for it as soon as I get up tomorrow....I hope that you're ok.

Exactly.

You're more qualified to speak about things like that than I am...but yes, he's got some serious issues.

You, of all people, know the only way to cause the only kind of "serious back problem" that would keep someone away from a very important court apperance! ;~D

Hey, I had a pre-existing condition!!! LOL

Oooh, Ted, that was too funny.

It was, I laughed out loud at that...

But Michael Jackson, the public persona, has played off his mental illness as "eccentricity",

And we all bought into it. We excused it, we tolerated it, and now it's run amok and we're wondering what we did wrong.

They are under no obligation to segregate the prat if they do arrest him on a bench warrant

Hehehehe...MJ in the gen. pop of the county jail.......hehehehe......he wouldn't last long.
