D and I have been checking out VW Vanagon's and Westfalia's on the 'net.

There's a distinct possibility that we will be the proud owners of such a vehicle in the not too distant future.

We have a dream you see.  One that sort of supercedes the homestead dream, one that's going to be much easier to achieve.

We want to buy a vintage vanagon, one with a sink and stove and fridge.  One that has a canvas pop-up on the top so you can stand up in the back of it.  One that has the bench seat that flattens out to a bed.

We want to buy this vanagon, restore it, and then, once the AF has had it's fill of us and the kids are all in college or otherwise out of the house, we want to go.  Go anywhere.  Go everywhere.  In our vanagon.

D and Dharma, on the road.  Going to places we've always dreamed about going to....travelling Rt 66, going to Yellowstone, to the Pacific and Atlantic beaches and anywhere in between.  Staying in any one place for as long as we care to, avoiding interstates unless we absolutely have to use them.....seeing America, the real, rural America of folk stories and songs.

D and Dharma, being Dharma Bums, neo-hippies, wanderers.....

....just being, together.

This is our dream.  Working all winter, traveling all summer.

I can't think of anything else I'd rather do.

That is a wonderful dream. Now all you have to do is wait for the kids to grow up and move out

I second Danny.

But I got to add.

Hippie!

Hey!  Go for it!

Well....we could leave them with their grandparents for a couple of weeks while we take off to wherever...it'd be like a dry run, a warm-up for longer, more extensive trips.

Hippie!

Yep, I'm starting to think that I am.  'Cept I don't stink, and I don't like the smell of patchouli oil.....!

Dharma,

My parents have been doing this for the last 4 years and are happier and healthier every time I see them. My wife and I also plan on doing this. Australia is such a large country with so many places to see and things to do, we're actually planning on doing this sooner rather than later.

I have the dream of turning a bus into our mobile home, complete with shower, and a satellite dish on the roof. The reality is we'll probably get ourselves a Kombi Van and tool around the country in it. We can hardly wait.

Cheers,

Maso

I can believe that....

Australia is such a large country with so many places to see and things to do, we're actually planning on doing this sooner rather than later.

As are we.  We're planning on doing a run once a summer after we get the van, for a week or two at a time...the kids will stay with their grandparents and D and I will take off on our own.  Then, once the kids are out of the house we're on the road.

We were looking at propane hot water heaters over the weekend...and you can also get shower heads to attach to them, so we're trying to come up with a way to rig up a shower.  We're planning on doing a lot of 'roughing it', so having a way to get hot water and a way to clean yourself is pretty important.

We can't wait either......I just want to get on the road and see whatthe rest of the USA has to offer!

Hey, how is this for an idea for the future? We'll swap countries and rigs and see what each other's home has to offer.

At least we'll save on accomodation expenses...
