Today was my first day working in Military Justice, and so far it's gone very well. I familiarized myself with the Continuity Binders and the office in general, read through the past Article 15 file to see what the case load has been like in the past, created some letters of notification for 2 current cases and one adjudicated case, and witnessed a will. I also found out that I'll get to liase officially with my husband on some cases....not sure if I like that or not yet. But, there was no shredding, and no filing...gotta love that.
This afternoon I'm going to work the front desk.....which is more involved than it sounds. Front desk handles all the walk-in legal assistance requests, and generates all the Powers Of Attorney...so it's not just answering the phone and looking pretty. The only task I cannot perform is notarizing documents...I'm not a Notary Public, and cannot become one until I attain citizenship (which, btw should happen this summer).
I'm liking that they're giving me 'real' work to do. I don't mind doing 'bitch' work (mundane generic office stuff), but it's nice to feel like they have some trust in me and are exhibiting that trust by letting me get some hands-on experience with confidential material.
Well, it's back to work I go.....
