...first day of solitude for me.
Published on January 3, 2005 By dharmagrl In Misc

Today is the day D goes to work as an E-6.  I have to say that the extra stripe on his arm looks...well, comfortable, I suppose.  Like it belongs there.

As for me, well...I quit my job last week.  It had served it's purpose...it gave us a little extra for the holidays, and that was really what mattered.  It was by no means a career choice for me.  So, today, after the kids and D have departed and I've done the cleaning, I'm going to sit with my needles and turn out a couple of hats.  I think that I'm going to start off by donating some to the chemo unit at the local hospital and maybe a few baby beanies to the NICU.  I found some 'made with love by ______' labels that I can sew into the back of them so people will at least know who made them and that they really were made with love.

I suppose that's all there is to tell...except that I'm going to try my hand at knitting socks later this week. The pattern looks a bit complicated, but I think it's going to be one of those things that, once I get into it, will become easier to understand when it's in my hands and I'm actually working it.

Anyone want a pair of funky knee socks and a hat to match?

Oh sweet solitude... I don't know what that means anymore...
My son, his wife and 4 1/2 month old son have been staying with me for 2 months now while theire new apartment is being renovated. They are supposed to move in there in about a week or so...so if you think I'm complaining now...just wait till they are gone .

I'm glad that things are going well for you Dharma!

Ummm no, I don't need a hat and matching Knee socks but, a tightly knit beanie would be really nice.

Ohh, I prefer a either dark or earthy color.

Exactly.  The first few days might be nice, but you won't know what to do with yourself after that....

I have a yarn that's what I would call autumnal colors... muted greens and earthy browns with a hint of dark red in it.  I think it might be what you're looking for.  I'll see about getting started on one this week...

Hey dharma, good for you. It's great you can knit - a skill I do not possess but which I did.

The hat sounds nice. I've been trying to find a nice one for my 3yr old. It gets cold here in Fl too - yikes!

Boy or girl, and what colors do they like?  I'll be happy to try and accomodate you....

Girl, she loves blue and purple. I'm not going to say you don't have to (and you don't - ok I said it) Hey, oh nice of you - no pressure.

Cool, I'll have a look and see what I've got.  I know there's no pressure, but I probably will anyway!

Thanks Ted.  He went off to PT this morning and got 'tacked' some more......and I stayed home and cleaned and washed clothes and cooked and knitted and read and had me a good ol' time.

In the Army it is 10 drinks per stripe. I would take the socks but I think Wanderer and Talisein would look askance at me if I wore those in Iraq:)

He doesn't drink that much anymore...but perhaps I can get him liquored up later and then take advantage of him...

Awww!  I was going to make you some pretty pink and purple and green striped ones!  Never mind, I'll make you a beanie for when you get back.  You should be outta here pretty soon, huh?  That makes me sad....

Ha! My first victim!  I have to find the right yarn; acrylic doesn't work well for sicks...you end up with funky feet instead of funky socks.

By the way I want to order a beanie as soon as you set up your business!

Your lil' peanut already has one on order, and I'll make you one as long as you tell people where you got it....

Sacrilege! Blaspheme!

Yes, I know.  We did enjoy a recipe for this punch that tastes like apple pie Sunday evening (spiced rum, cinnaon schnapps, and apple cider) but that's the first alcohol he's touched since he got shitfaced Labor Day weekend.

Enjoy your peace and knitting!

I think I will...and I send you peace (and perhaps some knitting too)!
