...and the Commander shook my hand and told me "good job!"

D had his promotions ceremony this afternoon.  The Shirt, commander, the Ops Officer and Superintendent were all there, as were the guys D works with and for, about 20 people in all.

D chose me and his supervisor to 'tack' on his stripes for him.  Basically, they put tape on the back of the stripes, and each tacking designee gets to puch the stripes on to the promotees arm.

I gave him a good right....so good that the room broke into applause and someone said "dang!  she smacked the crease outta that stripe!" and people came up and shook my hand afterwards.

I even got congratulated for D's getting promoted, which made me feel pretty good.  It's been a tough run, this past couple of years....but it's been worth it.  The pay raise is slightly more than $400 a month, which is awesome...we're doing okay now, but that extra will certainly come in handy.

D's pretty stoked about it.  He got new stripes sewn on his uniforms last week, and as we were walking out of the alterations shop he turned to me and said "yanno, it feels pretty durn good to be walking around with Tech stripes on my sleeves".  I don't blame him.  It feels pretty durn good to me too.

So, as of Saturday, it's going to be Technical Sgt and Mrs Fred.

That's freakin' awesome.

Yeah, it made me laugh as well.  That's probably the only time I'll get to smack him like that and get away with it....

That's awesome. Congrats to you both.

The Army (and Marines) do things a little differently: since we wear rank on our collars, and there exist pin-on rank... So, the double-fist-drop-to-the-collarbone is pretty popular. Or was, at least, until our previous 1SG got squeemish at the sight of blood on SGT Oswald's BDU t-shirt.
