I'm changing my hair color.

I like to mix it up a bit...I had been trying to grow it out, but I simply cannot handle anything but short hair.  It gets to a certain length, then goes all limp and flat.  I try switching shampoos, conditioners, gels, sprays etc...but it doesn't really make much of a difference.  I simply don't have the time or the inclination to blow dry and curl it everyday, so I keep it pretty short...that way I can just towel dry it, run a bit of wax through it and I'm done.

So, because I don't change hairstyles much, I like to change colors.  I've been varying shades of red for a while....but I've also been blonde, brown, brown with blonde highlights, dark brown, soft black, and soft black with scarlet streaks in it.

This time, though, I can't decide what to change it to.  Should I go for a lighter auburn?  A dirty blonde with lighter highlights?  Brown?  Not black again, that was a pain in the rear to get rid of....how about a vibrant, most un-natural red?

I simply can't decide.  So, dear reader, I'm asking for your advice.  What should I do?  Give me some ideas....!

Dharmagrl,

I swear we were separated at birth. I have had short...short...short hair for about 15 years now. Twice I grew it out because Zombie wanted me to, only to cut it about a month after it reached the length he wanted. I changed my hair color every 6-12 months. I have done every color you mention and every combination except the black. Zombie said I will look like Snow White (I am incredibly pale). I told him think of it as a vampire thing, but he hasn't bought it yet.

One of my favorites was when I went platinum blonde with red streaks. It was awesome. The women at my sun's school looked at me strange, but when do they not. My mother also said it wasn't "motherly." Whatever that means.

My second favorite is what I have now.

a vibrant, most un-natural red?

It is so much fun! Even my blog description mentions it! I called it "dyed flaming redhead"

So my vote dyed flaming red or platinum blonde with flaming red streaks.

The most fun I had with my hair colour was Red Corvette Fudge - it made my hair magenta!

I've also done Napro Live - Blueberry (which was almost black/purple - it was great

Plus they weren't really outrageous so I could go to work like that - unlike my friend who had ash blonde hair and she used blue fudge and she let it grow out and it went green/grey like seaweed - it was really yuck.

Other then that I've done Nice & Easy 106 (blonde) Garnier Lumier (blonde) and a Napro chestnut/mahogony (can't remember)

I vote for an odd color, like pink or blue or something like that. hehe, or you could shave it all off, that would be funny

My red was Hydrience Scarlett Shimmer btw. It came out a deep deep raspberry red. At least that is how my father explained it.

I'm starting to think so too!!

I've had short hair since i was 14...so 21 years now.  My current favorite is the 'pixie' cut...my hair naturally grows forward so it's a style that works with my hair instead of against it. I grew it out once, down past my shoulders....and I hated it.  D thought he'd like it, but said I 'wasn't me' without short hair.  He also prefers the red...

One of my favorites was when I went platinum blonde with red streaks

Oooh!  Now that would be fun!!!

"dyed flaming redhead"

Yeah, I'm thinking that's what I'm going to do.  The blonde with red sound like fun, but I'm not sure I want to go that pale....perhaps a vibrant, vivid red with some blond streaks in it might work too?

Trina: I saw someone the other day who had vivid teal and purple hair.  That's a bit too much for me....but I do like un-natural reds!

I don't care if my hair looks 'motherly' or not either!!

I've thought about doing that...I sometimes think I'm too attached to it and that i ought to get rid of it.

I've used that before...as I recall I liked it.  I also like the Feria intense reds....

I've used that before

Ok, now I am sure that we were separated at birth! I have had mine short since I was 14, too. Since I am 31, I estimated 15 years with the two times I grew it out!

My favorite "celebrity" is Sinead O'Connor. I always say one day I will shave my head and look as beautiful as her.

I used to love to dye my hair, but in the past couple of years, my scalp has changed or something, and when I dye it I have an allergic reaction. That makes me sad.

I think you should go with something bad ass and unique. You're way too cool for a boring normal color with highlights. Have fun!

My hair's really dark so when I dye it nothing shows up. I used to dye my hair platinum blond, and then dye it pink or red or whatever, but it completely ruined my hair, so I quit dying it!

I always think baby pink hair looks so cute though, especially if you're pale. I guess it depends how fair your skin is, but people with darker skin look really good with sort of bluey-black hair..

Good luck with whatever you go for dharma, and thankyou so much for the comment It helps to know other people have been thru the same.

Go for "dirty blonde with lighter highlights" that sounds, hmmm....nice!
