I applied for another job yesterday, at the commissary.  The position was for a cake decorator, the money's not that great, but the hours....10 am to 4pm, monday thru friday.  Perfect hours for me!

So, I went off for the interview this morning.  Turns out there's more to it that just decorating cakes...they've just set up a frozen yoghurt/soft serve ice cream booth and I'd be in charge of that, and then they'd also want me to be responsible for the bulk candy bins.

The lady that interviwed me was smaller than mself (and that's pretty damn small, ya'll!) and she talked a LOT.  But, she seemed really nice and friendly, easy to get along with, and she basically offered me the job.  She said she had one more person to interview, but that I was the perfect applicant...I live on base, I'm dependable, honest, and she liked me to boot.  So, she said she'd call me back this afternoon to verify that I had in fact go the job and to let me know what time to show up at tomorrow so she could train me.

It's not exactly what I had envisoned myself doing.  But, it's a job, and it pays.  I'll be bringing home about $400 every 2 weeks...not bad, really.  It'll help pay for my school books, it'll help pay for Christmas gifts, and once the holidays are over I'll have some pocket money.  More importantly, it'll get me out of the house and interacting with other grown-ups...and that's really important, especially with D scheduled to deploy in a couple of months.

So, now all I have to do is wait for the call that makes it official......

400 per 2 weeks? That's pretty good pay. Mines at 200 per 2 weeks. Of course, I just work weekends, but college prevents me from working weekdays.

Kudos to you Dharma. You'll be earning more than me anyway!!

Congrats

It's not too bad.  Better than nothing, anyway!

I'm hoping so too.

Like I said, I still haven't got the call yet....but I'm keeping my finger, toes, and everything else crossed.  If it's meant to be, it will be.

Didn't your mom ever tell you not to cross your eyes for so long??

Great news. Sounds like it could really work out well. Let us know.

What happened with the chiropractor, K?

Isn't it awesome when you click with an interviewer, though?

And it will DEFINITELY be good to talk to adults whilst (as you would say) D is gone...

Good for you, awesome girl!

Yes, she said I'd stay like that if the wind changed....apparently it didn't change, because I haven't stayed like it yet!

My kids would disagree, but they are pretty excited.  Jake asked if I got a discount, and if I did, would I be bringing stuf home every day...I think he thinks that we're going to be living on candy and cake!

I haven't heard anything from the chiropractor, Marcie.  I know that they're not going to start reviewing applications and calling people for secondary interviews until next week though.  If I get the call, I'll go....in the meantime, this job will do fine.  And, if I don't get offered the chiro job, at least I'll have this one.  The hours are what really sold me....they're exactly what i was looking for!  it is cool when you hit it off with your interviewer, it makes everything so much more relaxed and fun....and yes, the interaction with other people will be awesome.  I've struggled through previous deployments when the kids were small and I didn't really know anyone, and it wasn't a lot of fun.  Having a network of friends, of support, is really important.  So is having a routine.

Hey Dharma,.... YAY!!!! xoxo

Thanks, P!

Thank you all for your best wishes and good thoughts...still no call yet..

I'm glad to hear it, dharma. I can picture you having a blast, running around the commissary bakery doing cakes and laughing and helping people figure out exactly what they'd like . . . Yay for you!
