I've been meaning to recount this little tale for a while now, but I kept forgetting.

As many of you knew, my neighbors in South Dakota were...well, they were bitches, to be blunt.  What I'm about to tell you will reinforce that...

It was moving day, and the truck pulled up.  Because we had a double-wide driveway, the truck would have been blocking the neighbor's car in.  Dave being the decent person that he is, went over to see if Bitch-Next-Door wanted to move her car before the movers got going loading things up.

D:  Hi, we're moving today, and the truck's going to end up blocking you car in your driveway.  D'ya want to move it now in case you need to go somewhere?

B: I don't know.  (and she shuts the door in his face)

So, the movers wait for about an hour, then they pull the truck forward, blocking her in, and start loading up.

About 90 mins later, here she comes with her husband, asking how hard it will be to move the truck so she can get the car out.

D: Well, ya know, that's going to be difficult.  That's why I asked you if you wanted to get your car out earlier.

B:  well, I'm not going to walk out in the street to get to my car.  I'm just not gonna do it.  that's not my responsibility (despite the fact that she parked in the street all the time)

D: well, you better ask the movers if they can do it.  I'm not going to.

So, she asks the movers, and they stop what they're doing and move the truck. He husband apparently has had enough, because he takes off. 20 mins later the movers start asking where she is, because she hasn't moved the car yet.  She's not at home, so I tell them to try her friend across the street.  They do:

Mover:  we moved the truck, can you come and move your car?

B: well, you're gonna have to wait.  I'm not ready to leave yet.

I was pissed....so pissed that I called the cops.  They came out and briefed her....told her that she had the chance to move it, so she should have done that, and that they were sick of being called out because of her behaviour.  They were also going to contact her husband's command section and tell them what she'd done, and that she owed us and the movers an apology.

After the cops left, she came and moved her car....and then her and her friend left in her friends car! She wasn't even going to use her car that day, she was just being a bitch for the sake of being a bitch.

I am sooo glad I'm out of that neighborhood.  Hopefully the cops were as good as their word and reported her to her husband's commander....I know that the military was looking for an excuse to kick them out of housing, and I'm pretty sure her behaviour that day was the perfect opportunity.

Good call and good for you! I hope some action was taken by the housing office and unit over this.

How are the new neighbors? Get to meet them yet?

Yeah, that about sums her up totally...childish.

The new neighbors are cool, Chip.  They came over and introduced themselves when we first moved in.  They're our age, have 2 kids, both work, and, most importantly, are grown-ups who know how to behave.

I'm loving living here!  I'm sorely tempted to send my ex-neighbor a Christmas card saying "we're loving not living next to you, you f-ing c&#t!"  (sorry, I don't drop the c-bomb very often but she is very deserving of the title)

Glad we're her, wish you were dead!
merry F#$%ing christmas, a-hole!

Don't fight what comes naturally!

Glad to hear the new neighbors are cool. We're lucky here. Since it's a training environment, they actually try to segregate the housing areas by rank - they are really strict here about relationships between trainees, students, and permanent party. While a lot of the people in my neighborhood are students, they are all careerists. Mostly E5 and up. So, we get to live in a neighborhood of adults. It's nice. There are also a lot of people from my platoon here, too. Six of us all within a five minute walk of each other.

Hey! That's rankcist! (rank + racist = rankcist . . . OK, it's lame, I know)

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Yeah, I guess it is. But the Army got a black eye years ago over when NCO's started sleeping with PVT's. Especially in training units. So, now, they keep everyone apart as much as possible.

As for the neighborhood of adults part... well, we had some issues at Schofield (as you are well aware of) that we don't have here. The difference... Junior Enlisted families... I know they aren't all the same and that being a NCO doesn't exempt a person from being a jackass, but the segregation works here. I hear a lot of stuff from my married students about how crappy their neighborhood is.

My neighbors all suck . . . or maybe they're all really nice and I'm the one who sucks? Whoa . . . that's pretty profound right there . . . hmm . . .

My neighbors are mostly E4s with a couple E5s and one E6. They all drop cigarrette butts in my driveway and let their kids drop Barbie fruit snacks wrappers in my yard equally, regardless of rank. !

Seriously, though, I'm sure that it does make a difference because higher rank typically means older, more experienced, more "Army," and more interested in upholding standards. Our neighborhood E6 isn't all that bad . . . his wife is a redneck lush who gives her kids sleeping pills, but the husband is OK.

Our neighborhood E6 isn't all that bad

We have an E-5 living next to us, an E-6 across the street, a E-4 on the other side of us and the rest of the street are all E-5's.

Dave sews on E-6 in January...making him the next-to-highest ranking person on the street.

I know what you mean about higer ranking people being more...refined, I suppose.  Airmen's wives tend to be young (like not old enough to drink young) and seem to think that life on a military base should be lived like they're still in High School.  That's the problem I've always run into before....not around here though.

That's great! One of my buddies here got selected for Tech Sgt this year and is just waiting to sew it on!

It's a good thing when that is true. But, unfortunately, jackasses wear all ranks. But, usually it works out that higher rank/older age equals a little more maturity in the housing area. They can be jackasses at work, but not too bad in the neighborhood. Make problems at home and it can start to affect the career. When your A1C/PFC, you still don't have much of a career to affect. When your SSG/TSgt and above, you start to worry about those sort of things. Appearing on the blotter for a noise complaint is not a good thing at senior ranks.

Exactly.  You're supposed to have a little more maturity and military bearing at that point in your career....you're supposed to know better than the Airmen.  The military expects it's NCO's to set the example for the soldiers and Airmen......

It's true that jackasses wear all ranks....it's also true that bitches are bitches, no matter what their husband's rank!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Ain't that the truth. Some of the nicest guys I've ever known in the Army were ruled at home by a wife that was the captain of the house... to put it nicely...

Could that woman be more of a bitch? I think not....

Could that woman be more of a bitch? I think not....

Nope, I think that was about the pinnacle of bitchiness too.....too bad she screwed herself when she did it.  See, she wasted the goverment's time and money, and the government doesn't like that.  I heard that her husband got into a little trouble over that.  What kind of trouble I have yet to ascertain..I'm going to make a few calls this week to see what I can find out.

I know I shouldn't be gloating.....but I am.  Just a little.

and permanent party.

Yeah? I never knew they have a permanent party! Does they keep ordering food and beer for hat party?

Anyway, I'm glad you moved from those people with two extra assholes.
