What I did during my semi-self imposed exile.

Well, I'm glad to see that you haven't all killed each other...

What’s up, JU-ers?  Long time no talk, huh?

Well, we’re all moved in here at Scott AFB in the Great State of Illinois.  We landed on our feet and moved into a 4 bedroom, 2-bath house less than a week after we got here.  Our new home is really not bad…older, yes, but that works with my rustic decorating style.  It’s also one level, so there are no stairs…which my knees and back are delighted about! We have a big backyard, with trees and squirrels, and also a small creek to fish in.  I have a flower garden in the front yard that at the moment is full of chrysanthemums in bloom, creating a splash of yellow and orange color by my front door.  I have plans to move all the mums to under the bedroom windows next spring and create a rose garden under the kitchen window.  I’ve always wanted one…and here is my opportunity to create one.

We bought a Jeep Cherokee Laredo the day after we got here.  It’s a little older, a ’87, but it runs well and looks good for it’s age (it resided in New Mexico for most of it’s life, ergo it has little rust on it).  It test drove it…and that was a trip, to say the least.  It was the first time since I wrecked my Jeep last year that I had been behind the wheel of an SUV, let alone the same model that I about killed myself in.  When I got out I was shaking and felt like I was going to hurl, but at the same time I felt elated, almost euphoric.  I think that I chased away a lot of demons that had been haunting me in that 10-minute test drive.

I also got a puppy.  ‘Henry’ is a black and tan miniature daschund, and he was born on August 13th, the day that Dave was due back from Greenland.  Obviously he’s not living with us yet because he’s too young to be away from his momma, but he’ll come home to us on the 25th of September.  I already have all the doggy accoutrements, much to Dave’s chagrin.  He keeps going on about how I don’t even have the dang dog yet but I’m already buying stuff for it … I tell him that when you’re pregnant you don’t wait until after the baby’s born until you buy a crib and clothes, etc, so why should I wait until after Henry comes home to get things for him?

So, that’s what I’ve been doing since we last spoke.  I’m keeping busy, sanding and refinishing my dining room set, making a blue jean quilt, unpacking, redecorating – in fact, this break has made me realize just how much I’ve been neglecting other areas of my life whilst I’ve been blogging.  I had become very unproductive, which is most unlike me – and that’s going to change.  I’m only going to let myself blog a couple of days a week, for no more than an hour or so a day, and only then if I’ve got all my chores and work done.  So, if you don’t see me around as much as you used to, don’t think that it’s because I don’t love you….I’m just busy with life and all that comes with it.

What have you been doing?  What’s been going on around here?  Give me all the details…..
