Well, we managed to escape from the vortex that is Ellsworth AFB....and we made it from SD to Indiana in 2 days.  We left Ellsworth at 1140 local time on Thursday morning (passed the housing inspection the first time, yay!) and we arrived in Vincennes, southern Indiana yesterday afternoon at 1500 local time.  No problems with the car, not too many problems with traffic, the kids were great...I'm just never staying in the Best Western in Newton, Iowa agin (I'll tell you more later).

Anyway, we're off to lunch (or dinner, as they call it in these parts) with my grandfather-in-law and then we're hanging with my mother-in-law's family tonight - and I get to 'borrow' my niece's 8 week old infant for a few hours!

I'll write more later......oh, Miggy, if you read this, will you please send me your mailing adress?  I'd like to add you to my postcard mailing list...you can send it to dharmagirl69@yahoo.com.  Thanks!

Love to you all........

Dharma

Good to hear from you! Hope the rest of your trip goes well.

I'm just never staying in the Best Western in Newton, Iowa agin (I'll tell you more later).

I've never been a fan of Best Western. If you're looking for hotels (if you don't mind my weighing in), I recommend Holiday Inn Express. They are generally not too bad in price and I've never stayed in a bad one. They've always been great. And many allow pets. Just thought I'd add in my two cents.

Take care and drive safe!

Good to hear from you, and glad you made to Indiana safely. Do your best to enjoy your time there, and relax a little--after the last couple of weeks, especially, you DESERVE it!

As someone who spends a lot of time sleeping in hotel beds (about 50+ a year) i can honesty tell ya Best Western Sucks! The better ones are...

Holiday Inn Express
Residence inn
Fairfield Inn
Homewood Suites
and Courtyards.

I'm glad ya got ther safe and sound. From the missle fields to the cornfields!

I have had a few good Low-price experiences with Micro-Tel.
I know the one in Erie PA. was nice and cheap.
If you go through Bloomington on the way out wave to my sisters and mom for me.

When I saw the title of this thread, all I could imagine is Kurt Russel doing another "Escape from..." movie. Although turning SD into a giant prison isn't THAT bad of an idea.

Good luck in Indiana. Or whereever, I can't keep track.

Wow..people actually miss me!

The BW in Iowa was probably the nastiest, dirtiest, noisiest room I have ever stayed in (and I've stayed in a few).  We've complained and though I doubt we'll get any kind of recompense it made me feel better!

Yesterday's lunch as awesome...we went to a little Amish run place out in Washington, IN.  They had some of the best barbecue I've ever eaten, and the pie and cobbler was just divine.  I bought their recipe book in the hopes of being able to replicate some of the delicacies they provided.....I can hope, right?

We spent the afternoon on Uncle Jerry's farm...got a tractor ride, saw the cows, caught frogs in the pond, admired his soybean and corn crops...the kids ended the day very dirty, very tired, but very satisfied.  I ended the day with an even stronger sense of belonging in the country with some chickens, a veggie garden and a goat (the pig idea just isn't going to work.  i couldn't send it off to slaughter and I'd end up with a 400 lb pet...pygmy goats are much more feasible critters to keep).

Dave and I are going to Scott on Tuesday to check it all out......I'll try and stop in again tomorrow!

The place right on the lake? The black buggy? Or am I thinking of the wrong town.
It has been 5 years since I drove that route through Washington, In to visit Mom.

Sounds like home to me.  We have a whole light of soybean and corn here in Michigan too.  Glad to hear your trip is going to well so far.

Best wishes!

The black buggy?

No, but the people that own the black buggy own this place...'Dogwood' is what it's called.  I'm hitting up the Black Buggy tomorrow...and it's their recipe book that I bought!  Wow, that's so cool that you know where I'm talking about!

I'm going to go put some 'bite eze' on my skeeter bites now...I got about eaten alive last night sitting outside, drinking beer and bs-ing (Geezer, having kin from here, probably knows exactly what I'm talking about!)......

Glad to hear your having fun Dharma

The Black Buggy is GOOD food I used to go eat there all the time when I was in College.

Hope the rest of the trip stays as fun and safe, without a hotel repeat

dharmagrl- I had commented to a comment you made on one of my blogs, but I think I probably deleted the article before you got the chance to see it. I'm very happy for you about your husband's return and your move. And I'm not sure how long you've had me unblacklisted, but thanks.
