For those of you who aren't up to speed.....I had a large lump (about the size of a hen's egg) removed from my left breast earlier this year.  It was non-cancerous, but it still had to come out anyway.

Now that everything has shifted back to normal and things have healed and settled....I'm lopsided.  My right is noticeably bigger than my left.  I usually wear a C cup...and I fill out the right side nicely.  The left is emptier.  I tried on a bra that was a B cup the other day, and the left side fit perfectly.  I'm starting to be self concious about it - my daughter noticed the other day when I was wearing a tank top.  I'm going to have to pad the left side of my bikini so it's not really noticeable....

I think that when we get settled at our next base I'm going to visit my doc and see what his advice is.  I read somewhere that insurance companies, if they cover the cost of any limpectomy, mastectomy, any potentially disfiguring breast surgery, has a legal obligation to pay for reconstruction.  I'm going to go look for that and see if it's correct.

If it is, I wonder if they have to give me a matching pair?  Because they can't really give me an implant or a lift on one side and not do anything with the other, I'll end up lopsided again. Hmmm....Dharma might be getting herself a new set of boobies!!!

Do you have Tricare? Wonder if they will take care of this for you? It's pretty typical for women to be naturally lopsided (although I don't think by the margin you mentioned). I do know someone with new boobs (her husband is deployed, won't he be surprised when he returns!) and they look nice. Go for the new boobies, girl!

Yes, we have Tricare Prime.  I was lopsided before the surgery, the left was slightly smaller...now it's even more pronounced.

My husband, bless his little heart, said 'well, I don't care, it won't make a difference to me - but I can understand why it would bother you and I'll back you up 100% if you want to get it fixed".  Wow.

*sigh*...6 more days....

Maybe they would just reconstruct the left one to be the same size as the right? i.e. up one size? I have enough trouble buying bras when I'm not overly lopsided (but just a little!). Not many high street stores stock decent 34DD bras, I've found

That's what I'd like, but putting an implant in is going to make it look different than the other one...I've nursed kids and things tend to move south, if you know what I mean!

34DD...wow.  That's an impressive pair, I must say!!

I am just glad that it was non-cancerous. Whoo hoo, Tricare. mejor que nada.

Me too!

Tricare.....well, let's put it this way, I don't like being part of an HMO. That's pretty much what's happened.  Slowly but surely the military is whittling away it's healthcare system...and if Flipper Kerry's in office I don't see it getting much better.

Dharma,

I didn't know about your operation, but I am glad you're in good health! I sadly also suffer from the uneven boob syndrome - the exact same difference as you have now, in fact (although mine is just how I am) I would love to even them out, but figure that I can't be bothered with the pain, nor do I have the money. The small one is nicknamed 'Baby Boob' thanks to my sister (it is really noticeable in certain clothes) and my last boyfriend had little acronyms for them. There was RTB (Really Tiny Boob) and HOAMIM (Hold On A Minute - It's Massive!) which initially made me freak out, but eventually made me laugh. Like your husband, he couldn't have cared less.

I ended up buying some of those chicken fillet thingies (I hope you know what I'm referring to and don't think I put raw foul in my underwear!) which you put in your bra and you can't tell the difference. But if you are prepared to get the surgery - more power to you! *wolf whistle*

Aww, thanks Suz!  I know that those things are, I'm going to get some this week so I can at least look even when we're on vacation.  If they offer me a surgical repair, then hell yeah I'm going to take it!  No co-pay, no hospital bill...insurance covers everything.

Now I have to  decide whether I want them to reduce the right so it looks like the left and lift both of them...or whether I want implants to make them both bigger and firmer.

Hmmm... maybe I should have spelt that fowl - or even poultry. Although putting fowl down your bra is foul. Anyway - enough word play!

As for sizes and what you want to do... I think that depends entirely on your lifestyle. If you play golf, I'd opt for smaller, but there is that saying about bigger being better! Keep us updated anyway!

Personally, I would have the right reduced to match the left.  Implants don't last forever and you eventually have to have them redone.  (The casing dissolves over time and they leak).  Though, I did see this show on Oprah where this lady was speared by a swordfish and the silicon from her fake boob saved her, so maybe it can be considered a safety feature

KarmaGirl: I saw that same episode! Wonder if anyone's ever been saved by a butt implant?
