My kids got some of that Shrek 'Crazy Hair' candy today.  Shea got the 'sour green tamarind' flavor.

I tried it.  It's gross.  If you've ever eaten Bertie Botts every flavor jelly beans, imagine chewing a vomit and booger flavor one at the same time and then you have an idea of what this stuff tastes like.

It was so gross it made me gag and I had to spit it out and then rinse my mouth out.  Yukky.  Very yukky.

I'm going to go eat some chocolate now to see if I can get rid of the taste......

Yes I'm nursing, so I won't be getting any of that candy. . . I wouldn't want to do that to Alysia. Poor kid.

Well the nastier things taste now the more the kids like them. I hated how blatantly they were plugging the damn jelly bean thing in the last HP movie. How about making a movie and not a fucking two hour commercial?

I didn't realize they made the Bertie Botts every flavor jelly beans into a real product. So is it as bad as it is in the books (i.e. do they try to make one of every flavor or are they just regular jelly beans)?

Yes. There are sardine, booger, vomit, black pepper, grass, horseradish, earwax....sardine is particularly nasty. The first sardine one I had was whilst I was driving and I ended up pulling over to pick it out of my teeth. Earwax was one that I didn't recognize the taste of at first...it wasn't until i had chewed a couple of times that it dawned on me what the flavor was. Here's what I don't understand: how do they make those flavors? Do they have someone to taste real earwax and then compare the jellybean taste to the real deal? On the nice side of the house, there are buttered toast, marshmallow, and the usual jelly-belly flavors. I still don't like Shrek candy though. The color is enough to put anyone off......

Being the Pennsylvanian that I am, I must say that Hersheys does indeed rock.

And this just helps my theory that chocolate is an adequate solution to ANY problem, ANY where, ANY time.

Yes, chocolate...the ultimate panacea, the balm that will soothe all wounds....I believe that if we all ate more chocolate we'd all be much happier.  Fatter, but happier.

re. Hershey Vs. Cadbury

Well, at least we can probably all agree that Nestle is crap. Their milk chocolate tastes like greasy dirt. The semi-sweet morsels aren't bad, but they are no better than any generic brand.

Ghiradelli is better than Cadbury too, but not as good as Hershey.

There is some nasty candy out there. I've seen candy dirt, sold within a small bucket with complete with a little rake. Inside, it looked like brown powder. With it being aimed at kids, marketers try to come up with some absurd forms of candy. There is also candy bubblegum crayons sold like the traditional box. It looks gross and because it appeals to kids, they want to try it.

Then again, I'm happy with 3 Muskeeters! Now, that's what I call good candy.

Oh, I forgot, there's also a dirt flavor jelly bean.

Ghiardelli.......yeah, it's ok.  Godiva is highly overrated, I think, and Nestle is crapola.  I prefer Cadbury to anything else.

There was some candy out a while ago that looked like dirt and it had gummy worms in it.  There's also this fad for ultra sour stuff...yukky.

I like gummi bears, the red shoelaces, the coca-cola bottle gummies and the milk maid caramels.....see, now I have a craving for them.  I'm off to the store to get my fix....

Wonka brought back Bottle Caps, but they aren't as good as I remember them. I think the novelty of cola and root beer flavored sweet tarts is dwarved in comparson to the extreme candy that's out now. Reisen is pretty good. I thought the peanut flavor would seem cheap, like almost all peanut enhanced candy, but it's actually quite good. A local candy shop - Van Otis - makes a product they call Swiss Chocolate Fudge, which is really quite amazing. It's a really high butter fudge with a very subtle chocolate flavor. Imagine the Cadbury philosophy taken to absurd extremes. I like sour gummy cola bottles and the occasional atomic fireball. All told, I rarely get around to eating candy. Save my calories for beer.

I have a recipie for milk caramel that is fantastic, but you literally have to stand over the hot stove for an hour. You have to stir in evaporated milk really slowly to avoid scalding it or cooling the batch too much. It you rush it, you get a sort of clotted texture. There's no way I'll make them until summer is over. Even then, cutting and wrapping them is a major pain. It's hardly worth it, even though it's better than anything you can buy. I'll post it if anybody has any interest.

The first Bertie Botts bean I had was a dirt one. *cringes* just the thought of it makes me sick. Although, I think the vomit and boogers were also very very bad. But when they made them they sure did try to make them taste like the real thing. My husband saw the Shrek Candy today and wanted some, I didn't say anything about what it tastes like. He got it and on the way home he got it out and had it. I just looked at him with this grim expression on my face. His look was even better trust me. It must be gross to have him making faces and reaching for my soda. Men. . .

No way. Hershey's rules! It's the Great American Chocolate bar. Some people just aren't up for it. Hershey's with almonds is as good as it gets.

No way...the chocolate to die for is Toblerone! I got addicted in Germany, and I still love, love, LOVE it!!

I like gummi bears,

Oh yes....love gummi bears, but they have to be the soft chewy ones, not the harder, almost break your teeth kind.
