I can smell him again!
Published on June 7, 2004 By dharmagrl In Personal Relationships

I got my birthday gift from Lonesome today.  My birthday's not until next week, but the mail system from up there is irregular at best.

Her had been promising for ages to send me a shirt that he wore...so I can smell him.  It sounds funky, but I find it incredibly comforting.

So, I got a package today, and inside it was a sandwich bag containing a shirt and a birthday card with a dollar in it (he has this thing about sending cards with no money in them).

I sat there for a bit, looking at the bag...then I undid it and took a good deep sniff....and burst into tears.  It smells just like him.  It made me realize how goddam much I miss that knucklehead.

I haven't taken the shirt out of the bag yet.  I don't want to; I'm afraid it will make the smell fade away.  It's probably going to stay in the bag until he comes home and I can smell him all over our house again (and on me!)  I think I'm going to keep it under my pillow so that I can fall asleep with his smell...it'll be almost like he's there.

Almost, but not quite.  Not long to go now....I hope.

well Dharma, I've never had a man give me his shirt before, so in that respect I have no idea what you're going through.
But as you know, I'm getting ready to leave my woman too... and guess what she asked for?  not one, but two of my shirts.  I guess I'll give 'em to her, considering that I have a certain piece of her clothing...    shhhh... don't tell anyone...

not much longer now Dharma... hang in there...

Random unknown reader response!

Apparently, the sense of smell is the sense that will trigger the most memories. So, I guess that something like his shirt would bring out a lot of emotions from you. Not to mention the pheromones...

But I hate to see people in love seperated, and hope the two of you are reunited soon.

See MJ, you gotta wear the shirt before you give it to her.  That way it smells like you.  Lonesome wore the shirt he sent me for a week (only to sleep in though) so some of his smell would make it across the ocean to me.

2 hander....yes, smell does evoke very strong memories for me, it always has.  We'll be back together in...oh...65 or so days now, after a year-long separation.  I'm sooo excited!!!  My honey will be home! Yay!

I know what you mean...I've had a big shit eatin' grin all evening myself.  I keep going over and opening the bag and getting a little whiff, then walking away smiling.

*sigh* my husband is awesome.  Just freakin' awesome.

I have a certain piece of her clothing...

i believe yall have just superceded entire libraries full of those 'what makes men and women different' books. shirts are for women, certain items are for men.

smokin!

I asked him if he wanted any of my 'certain items'.  He said he didn't, that's what web cams are for.

Dharma, I'm so happy for you. Seriously... I saw the title and drew in a short breath and smiled. You're a lucky woman.

Michael, you are hilarious... you never cease to make me laugh. BTW, where are you going?

Apparently, the sense of smell is the sense that will trigger the most memories

Yes, yes it does... for me anyway.

Yeah....but then my PC died and my web cam doesn't work on the system I'm running now, so that killed that idea.

Sarah...yes, I am.  Very lucky, and I know it.

awww thats no good.

if your current system has the correct port available, that shouldnt be terribly difficult to resolve (with the exception of certain logitech cams and windows xp) even the port issue isnt that big a hurdle.

on Jun 07, 2004

I have a logitech that was designed to run on xp.  The problem is that I bought a used older system (running windows98) and I don't want to overload it.  I have the usb ports, that's not an issue......I just don't know how much i want to put on this system.

Besides, I'll be getting the real deal soon enough!

OMG! yay! Shawn made fun of me when I asked him for a shirt before he left, and now I don't feel like I'm the only one who likes to smell their husband's shirts while he's gone!

Awww....that is so sweet!  I will be happy when you two get back together.

My husband was in the merchant marines (which has nothing to do with the military, in case anyone wonders, except you are certified by the coast guard) when we were dating.  He ended up quiting that job and getting a land job.  We hated being apart too much.  Now I have a hard time when he goes on his week snowmobile trips.  Not sure I could handle the separation.

Happy birthday in advance!
