I finished knitting JustJohn's baby beanies today.  I had a couple already made but I decided that I didn't like them, so I made three new ones in the space of 12 hours.

They are tiny.  Incredibly small.  I had some good sized apples in the fruit basket on the kitchen table, and I tried a beanie on a Golden Delicious for size - and it fit.  I wish I had the battery power to take a photo, but the kids have (as usual) run down the batteries in the camera and have used all the AA's and AAA's  for their technological bits and pieces.  I swear we should invest in some Energizer or Duracell stock; we use enough of them.  We tried the rechargable ones and were doing okay with them for a while, but then outlet space became and issue and someone unplugged the charger - and I haven't seen it since.

Anyway, the beanies for Chloe, Tabitha and Parrish are in an envelope, ready to get taken to the Post Office tomorrow and sent down to Shreveport where they'll be used to keep three little heads warm in the hospital whilst they're busy learning how to eat and breathe at the same time so they can go home with JJ and Mrs JJ - where they belong.

On another note, I'm thinking about attending a Doula workshop towards the end of the year.  A Doula is a woman who provides support during pregnancy, labor and birth - and sometimes in the post-partum period too.  I've said for ages that were I lucky enough to be able to have another child I'd want a Doula there with me, and seeing as how I can't have any more kids I'd like to try doing the Doula thing for other women.  I also think it'd be a fitting thing for me to take on - I'd be spending time helping people come in to the world as well as shuffle off of it.  A nice balance, in other words.

In the meantime, I've started San Chon's Linux scarf and am about to the middle of Tux's belly.  If I carry on like this he might just get to wear it for Utah's last frost or for cooler spring days!

Ok, back to the needles I go....

Yeah, I do...and the hats that I made were using sport weight yarn (much thinner than worsted weight or 'normal' yarn) using size 5 needles, which are pretty thin!  But, I've been knitting for 30 years, so I've had a lot of practice.  The first thing I ever knitted was a blanket for my new kitten - a 8" by 10" piece of garter stitch that took me two weeks to make using worsted weight and 10 1/2 needles.  So, you're doing really well, comparatively!

aw bless - they are tiny!

Yeah, they are, huh?!  Teeny little things!

I appreciate that. It's getting a little quicker with fewer mistakes, but I still feel like a clutz with the needles yet (size 10).

I whole heartedly support your idea of being a doula. It's a wonderful job and you would be in a possition to help so many women. somehow the idea hasn't caught on in the states but it is a blessing to mom and the father. I think you would be wonderful.

So is a Doula like a midwife?

Sounds adorable.

Re: doulas

Have you heard about the program that provides free doulas to wives of deployed Soldiers? I'm not sure what the name of it is, but if you wanted I could find out for you. I'm sure they have a website.

Oh, ok. One of my kids was delivered by a trained midwife, I was just wondering if it was a similar idea.

What about a baby beanie for a beanie baby? Not to be confusing...........

My daughter is due 01/22/07!

'Oh, in case you didn't know, I knit. I'm going to make you a baby beanie...'
"What's In A Name?" article

I remembered. lol.

I still want one in JU colors.
How do I set this up and what will I owe you. And don't say my first born, cause this is my first born. lol. It's not that I want a handmade beanie as much as I think it's just cool to get one from someone here, over the internet.

I just received a hand-knitted beanie (along with other goodies) in the mail today from "Operation Top Knot". I have to say, it's very cool.

I can't wait to see pics of JustJohn's little ones in the beanies you made for them!

Woo-hoo! I'm so excited!

I love them! I got them a few days ago and I have taken their pictures in them a couple of times. They look ok on the digital cam but when I bring them home they are blurry. I haven't been able to hold them this week but we are going when they won't be feeding this weekend. (We can't hold them while they eat)

As soon as I get a good picture I'll send it your way.

They all fit well and have a little growing room in them too. I am so excited that they will get to use them. The nurses change their hats so much I am afraid to leave them at the hospital just in case they get mixed in with the hospitals baby clothes. We already lost one outfit. That's not so bad though cause we kept the clothes they dressed them in first.

Did I mention I love them? Oh yeah! Tabitha got the solid pink one. Do you have a camera in their room? Your colors were almost perfect. Chloe is light green and Tabitha is pink. Parrish is, of course, blue. How did you know?

V. cool, D. You are so thoughtful, I think you'd be an excellent doula.
